Long, junior nursing student at North Carolina Central University, received the 1981 Durham Chapter's Lincoln Hospital School of Nursing Alumni Scholarship. Robert Graham (D-Fla.), the main speaker for the affair told the group that when the Democratic Party was first established that only white male property owners over 25 could join. "Now the Party has changed so that equality can be realized by all peo ple in the United States. We are Democrats; we are committed to the future," Graham said.
