1 2 THE CAROIINATIMES SAT., MAY 2, 1981 Zeta's Hold'Miss Blue Revue3 Pageant sorority attempts to in- The Eta Phi Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority," Inc., presented its Little Miss Blue Revue Pageant on April 18 at the Ramada Inn in downtown Durham. The pageant is the ma jor annual fund raising project of Eta Phi Zeta and is specifically design ed to raise scholarship funds for college bound young women in.lh.e Triangle area. The Chapter's most re cent contribution was to the United Negro College Fund through the Lou Rawls Parade of Stars telethon to help benefit the worthy and needy students at UNCF col leges. The six young misses who competed for the title of Little Miss Blue Revue are Tammy LaNell Russell, Tara Valita Alston, Angel Denise Ver bal, Samantha Paulette Evans, Pamela Billie, and Alicia Jones. Each young miss had an equal oppor tunity to ask for com munity sponsorship from friends, relatives, special patrons and y selling tickets to the Little Miss Blue Revue Pageant. There was also competi tion in the areas of costume and talent. Some of these activities were a skating party with refreshments -from . McDonald's, a science fair, a slumber party, a cookie bake; and a charm clinic that provid-c ed information about careers, nutrition, hair care, and fashions. Consultants for the Charm Clinic were Mrs. Gwendolyn Suitt, Counselor at Hillside High School, Mrs. Clara rLawson, Assistant Direc tor, Lunchroom Program for Durham City Schools, Ms. Evelyn Cates, DeShazor's Beauty Col lege, and Mrs.' Ann Williams, Fashion Con sultant from "Unique Unlimited Fashions" who designed the dresses for the Mini Fashion Show. Cookies baked by the young misses provided some of the refreshments for the Charm Clinic. An official welcome given by Soror Doretha Foushee, Basileus of the Eta Phi Zeta Chapter, set the stage for the opening of the Little Miss Blue Revue Pageant. Mistress of ceremonies lor the evening was Soror Martha Tilley, Tamias and Chair man of the pageant. Other members of the Triangle Chapter who participated were Sorors Barbara Lipscomb Shearin, First Anti-Basileus, and Co Chairman of the pageant; Viola Lawrence, Phylacter and Chairman of the Charm Clinic; Carrie Mat thews, Grammateus and Chairman of the door prizes; and, Trudier Har ris, Second Anti-Basileus and Chairman of the awards. - i ii i ii I iiyr--. r - f K V.'' The judges were Ms. Gloria Elmore, Assistant Prin cipal at Merrick-Moore Elementary School and Chairman of the judges; Larry Colbert, Attorney for Legal Aid Society of Durham; Ms. Shirley y Hart, Teacher, Hiliandale k Elementary School; and, Dr. Marion Phillips, Assistant Dean of Student Affairs, UNC' Medical School, Chapel Hill. Special presentations were made to the parents of the young misses. . Members of lota Omega Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., from UNC-Chapel Hill, served as ushers for the pageant. The theme, "Little Miss Blue Revue", depicts our National Project. The sel ling for the pageant was Hawaii. The opening number was a dance per- formed by the contestants to the tune of "Blue 1 Hawaii" with a backdrop depicting a Hawaiian scene designed by Raye, Hedgepeth. Each contes tant's talent and costume was to reflect a theme of .blue. Winners in the talent costume competition were Little Miss Tammy LaNell Russell, First Place; Lillle Miss Pamela Billie, Se cond Place; and. Little Miss Samantha Paulette Evans, Third Place. Winners for the Lillle Miss Blue Revue title were Samantha Paulette Evans, Little ' Miss Blue Revue 1981, Durham; Alicia Jones, First Runner-up, Chape! Hill; and, Tammy LaNell Russell, Second Runner-up, Durham. Pamela Billie was voted Miss Congeniality by ihc contestants and Alicia Jones was voted Most All round. The culmination of a gala evening was ihe pro menade led by the 1981 Little Miss Blue Revue to the music of "I Believe" played by Mrs. Virginia Alston, pianist. 0 FIRST PLACE TALENT-COSTUME WINNER: Little Miss Tammy LaNell Russell raptures her audience with a very dramatic singing and dance performance.
