He began nis cnrisuan ministry in 1932 and was ordained in 1934. In 1938, Lawson became pastor of Jerusalem United Holy Church of America, Inc. of Reidsville, where he recently led the congrega tion In building a $300,000 Church. In 1944 he suc ceeded the late Bishop Henry L. Fisher as pastor of Gospel Tabernacle (now Fisher Memorial United Ho ly Church of American, . Inc.) where in 1956 he led the congregation in con structing the present edifice with an education department and Day Care Center. Bishod Lawson attended Boydton Institute, Bbydton. Va. and Frederick Douglas High School, Baltimore, Md. He graduated from Hillside High School, Durham. In 1945, he received the B.A. degree from Livingstone College and in 1948 the B.D. degree from Shaw University School of Religion. Lawson received the Master of Divinity degree from. Shaw University in 1971 . For seventeen years, he taught and served as Dean and then President of United Christian Col lege, Goldsboro and received the Doctor of Divinity degree from the college. In 1960, he was elected Junior Bishop of the United Holy Church of America, Inc., a position he held until his death. Bishop Lawson served a tenure as President of the In terdenominational Ministerial Alliance of Durham and sur rounding areas; Chairman of the United Campus Christian Ministry of North Carolina Central University; leader of seminars and institutes; and as a missionary to Haiti where served as Bishop. He has travelled to many countries of the world; including England. Italy, Egypt, Greece, Palestine and in 1976 toured several countries in West Africa. At the time of his death, he served as pastor of Fisher Memorial and Jerusalem United Holy Churches; president of the Western North Carolina District Convocation and Bishop of the Youth Department. He led the Western North Carolina District in purchasing the Y.W.C.A. building at 312 Umstead St., Durham and presented it ot the General Church for its headquarters. He was an author of several books: Biography of Bishop H. L. Fisher; Catechism of United Holy Church of America, Inc.; Doctrine of Church of United Holy Church of America, Inc.; and Holy Spirit in Action. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Grace 0. Lawson; three daughters, Mrs. Gladys E. Holland and Rev. Hallie 0. Reeves, both of Washington, D. C, and Mrs. Martha Wanda Price; one son, Andrew W, Lawson Jr.; four sisters, Mrs. Valissa L. Thomas and Mrs. Adell L. Boone, both of Baltimore, Md., Mrs. Marian L. Smith of Washington, D.C. and Mrs. Salome L. Barnett of Ft.
