Mosley also created, wrote and nar rated a series called "The Black Ex perience" for radio station KFI. ' Mosley's opportunity not only to be seen and heard, but to be admired and successful, came when he attended classes taught by Raymond St. Jacques at Mafundi institute. Mosley was planning -to embark on a career in radio and broad casting when a friend told him about the Mafundi acting class. Mosley attended and, encouraged by Raymond St. Jac ques, began pursuing an acting career. It ' wasn't long before he landed a part in television's "Night Gallery". His televi sion credits now include such shows as "Baretta", "The Rookies", "McCloud.", "Kojak", "Delveccio", "Streets of San Francisco", "Sanford and Son", "Cannon", an NBC Big Event Movie of the Week, an ABC Big Event Movie of the Week, "The Other Side of Hell", "Cruise into Terror", Maya Angelou's "I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings", and "Jericho Mile". Mosley was most recently seen in a starring role in "Attica". He has recently signed to star in the new CBS television series "Magnum, P.I." and completed a guest starring role in the series "Stone". Mosley's career plans for the future in clude directing. He believes that his acting experience has enabled him to help others express themselves. "I find myself second-guessing directors when I'm ac ting," he admits. "I realize that I want to be a director myself and I'm looking for ward to that experience." Meanwhile, Mosley has not only taken over Raymond St. Jacques' acting class at Mafundi In stitute, he headed the drama department for several years, and as an outgrowth of the drama workshop, he founded and is co-director of The Watts Repertory Com pany. Through his work with the Watts Swim Club, the little league football team, his girls basketball team, and The Watts Repertory Company, Roger Mosley helps his people. He has a strong, genuine con cern for youngsters in Watts and for all black people. He is determined to help in every way he can. "I have come to the conclusion that black people have to be very much concerned about black peo ple," states Mosley. "We have fewer alternatives. If a black person tries to suc ceed, he may make one big thrust to become, say, a doctor or a lawyer. If that outlet is cut off, there is no place to go. I try to show people that there are many roads to follow." Mosley continues, "Because of our history, whites are usually the ones who have professional parents. Ours is the first generation of blacks to really move for ward. If a young black person succeeds, he turns around and buys his parents the things they could not afford. With white people, the reverse is true. It is the parents who give to the children. Because blacks today have to struggle harder to broaden horizons and to reach their goals, I work hard to help youngsters." An independent thinker, Mosley does whatever he feels he should. He believes in and likes to be involved with "good" projects. Whether they be motion pic tures, television, stage productions, or community projects. Says Mosley, "My actions are dictated by what I can live with. Other people might not agree with some things I do or say but I can get up every day and know that I feel good about Roger E. Mosley. i
