J ones -Green Nuptials Held May 16 Mr. and Mrs. Gerard Green Friendly Ladies Club The Friendly Ladies met at the Lincoln Memorial Church on Sunday afternoon; June 7, with Mrs. Myrtle Taylor and Mrs. Minnie Petty as hostesses. Mrs. Ella Crawford and Mrs. Hastie Price also assisted the hostess. After the devotion, the meeting was presided over by Miss Annie Cruse. Mrs. Martha Lee, a former member, visited the meeting. A repast was served to the following persons: Mmes. Mary Hayes, Annie Cruse, Hannah Roberson, Susie Dilihunt, Lennie Rose, Lonnie Smith, Agnes Hinton, Minnie Petty, Magdaline Llewellyn, Myrtle Weeks, Myrtle Taylor, Lina M. Saunders, Mattie Tillman, Car rie Green, Ella Crawford and Hastie Price. Penny Saving Club: Members and friends of the Penny Saving and the Thrifty Service Clubs will go to Atlantic City, N.J., August 13-16. Gets Master's Mrsl Nettie Young Dixon of Durham recently receiv ed her Master's degree in Computer Science from the University of Maryland, College Park. She is currently employed with the Department of Transportation in Washington, D.C:, as a computer analyst. She is a 1967 graduate of North Carolina Cen tral University and is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alex (and ts&ttie) Young of Durham. Bridge Winners College View Duplicate Bridge Club winners for June 4 were: First place-Doug Kemnitz and Matthew Wollard, second place-Randolph Young and Mary Young, third place-Curtis Norris and Minnie Norris, fourth place-Connie Patillo and Thelma Smith. e Lillie McDade Circle The Lillie McDade Community Club met May 17 at the home of the president, Mrs. Rosetta Southerland after worshiping at Community Baptist Church for the " 11 o'clock service. Devotions were led by John Washington and Mrs. Hattie Johnson. Tributes were given on the lives of the late Mrs. Lessie Wilson and Mrs. Lucille Markham, by Mrs. Mary A. Daniel and Mrs. Hattie Johnson, respectively. Mrs. Mary Mitchell Daniel, 87, was honored by the Circle. Mrs. Otelia Becton presented the highlights of Mrs- Daniel's life. Height : .Weight The Church of the Assumption in Washington, D.C. was the scene of the wedding of Miss Carol Bonita Jones and Gerard Green at noon on Saturday, May 16. Father Raymond J. Wadas conducted the dou ble ring ceremony. A reception was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. George E. Jones, parents of the bride. Escorted by her father, the bride wore a wedding gown of French lace on silk with matching veil. She carried a bouquet of white mums and baby's breaihcentered with an orchid. Miss Joni LaVette Jones was her sister's only attendant. She wore a gown of pastel mauve and carried a bouquet of pink mums and baby's breath. The bride is a 1979 graduate of North Carolina Central Universi ty, Durham. The bridegroom, son of Mr. and Mrs. George H. Green of Winston-Salem, is a graduate of Wingate College and a 1977 graduate of North Carolina Central Universi ty. The couple will reside in Chapel Hill. Mrs. Bertha Jordan of 2216 Fayetteville Street, was hostess for an enthusiastic regular monthly meeting of the Williams Family Circle Club on June 4. ' Quite a discussion was held about the Family Reunion in May at the home of Jesse and Mrs. Cloyce Lassiter in Chatham County. : ' . j Mrs. Rader Prince offered f a prayer and Mrs. Geraldine Smith, vice president, presided over the meeting in the absence of the president. A copkout will be held during the July 2 meeting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. James Horton of Route 3, Durham. NCCU Area Garden Club The NCCU Area Garden Club held a short business meeting June 1 at the home of Mrs. Hattie Johnson', 605 Hope St. After the business meeting, a cook-in followed. Those in attendance were Miss Jackie Meeks, Mrs. Lizzie Rawlings, Mrs. Weona Peaks, Mrs. Sophine Chavis, Mrs. Louise Moore and Mrs. Hattie Johnson. ' Mrs. Peaks thanked the hostess for such and en joyable evening. This was the last meeting for the sum mer. The next meeting will be held in September at the home of Mrs. Sophine Chavis, 514 Burlington Avenue. Law Graduate Honored. Mrs. Lorinzo Joyner, 514 Brighton Road, was honored at a surprise covered dish luncheon given by her neighbors on Saturday, May 22. The affair was held at the home of Mrs. Carolyn . Ruffin Blount, ;5 10 Brighton Road, who, along with Mrs. Gloria James, hosted the occasion. - : The ladies brought dishes of various foods. Ballard, Con stance Self and Janet Robinson, Piano Pupils Hold Recital " The piano pupils of the YWCA on Proctor Street held a recital on June 3 climaxing the closing of the Winter Spring piano lessons and After School Child Care Pro gram. Appearing on program were: Tangela Gray, Cheryl Quiambo, Felix and Felecia James, and Saundra Steele, all beginners; Chris Graham and Luis Albornoz, Grade 1. A pot luck supper was served by the staff and parents of the After School Child Care and parents of the Music pupils. . The families, including some grandparents and friends of the pupils, spent an enjoyable afternoon.
