How Perfumes Are Duplicated As a "result of advances in organic chemistry, science is able to identify the con stituents of perfume oils and match the active ingredients to synthesize perfumes. However, identifying the ingredients is only part of the puzzle in duplicating designer fragrances. The ingredients must be blended to match the fragrances of the great perfumes. 1 Beginning with the basic scent, a single elegant perfume may have several dosen dif ferent ingredients. The per fumer blends together those which culminate in a specific fragrance and this may take months, even years, of delicate and subliminal changes in a bask formula before the desired scent is attained. "However, for the con sumer," says la Contrefaifs WUlaon, "the result is relatively inexpensive perfumes that capture the ultimate in design er fragrances at a fraction of their cost." Ready for Sol?
