Spaulding, president. ? The National Council of Negro Women is a jura profit organization founded and organized December 5, 1935 by Mary McLeod Bethune in Washington, p. C. Ohe of its purposes is to serve as an umbrella, for women's organizations throughout its local sections, education and charitable projects to meet specific com- munity needs. Her broadcast is heard every Sunday and she has broadcasted nearly eleven years. -Evangelist Reams is a graduate of W. V. Grant Bible School, Dallas, Texas; Durham Technical Institute; and North Carolina Central University. Alton St., who died Friday, June 19 at the Veterans Ad ministration Hospital, were held Tuesday, June 23 at Scarborough & Hargett Memorial Chapel by Dr. Grady D. Davis. Burial was in Beechwood Cemetery. He was a native of Asbury, N. J. and worked in the food service department at Duke University for 20 years. He was a World War II veteran. He was a member of Union Baptist Church and its deacon board. He attend ed Shiloh Baptist Church in Kittrell. Surviving are his sister-in-law, Mrs. Blanche C. Rev. Johnson, the son of the late Reverend C.E.W. and Lessie McKessen Johnson, was born in Glen Alpine. He graduated from Olive Hill High School in Morgan- ton and later Kittrell college. He also received an Honorary Doctor of Divinity' Degree , from Kittrell. He served first in the Western North Carolina Con ference under Bishop M. H. , Davis and was transferred to the Baltimore Conference. . He served at Ever Green A.M.E. Church, Baltimore, Md., St. Stephens A.M.E, Church, Middle River; Rocks Circuit A.M.E. Church; Grace A.M.E. Church, Gaton ville, Md. Under the late Bishop Baber he was ap pointed Presiding Elder over the Portsmouth District, Va. Under Bishop Murph, he was appointed Presiding Elder over the Richmond-Roanoke District in Virginia. In 1978 he was sent to St. Paul in Danville, Va. serving two years as pastor. Surviving are his wife, Mrs.- Irene Fitzgerald Johnson; two brothers, Paul A. Johnson of Knoxville, Tenn. and William E. Johnson of Cleveland, Ohio; two sisters, Ms. Robbie C.
