Guests from Mount Olive, NC, were Vermel Washington, Connie B. Grady and C. Arm wood; from Washington, DC, Ms. Patricia Lane; from ; Doxham, Mr. and Mrs. James Amis, Ms. Cynthia Leak, Chadwick Leak, Ms. Gloria Leak, Ms. Earnestfne Mer cy, James Leak, Jr., Mr. and Mrs. J.H. Solice, Mason . Brook, Martin Brook, Michael Brook. Members attending were Mr. and Mrs. K.D. Brown, Ms. Elsie Black, Ms. Annie Lee, president, Ms. Thelma Parrish, Ms. Alberta Leak, Ms. Myrtle McMillan, Ms. Carolyn Smith, Ms. Edythe Kine, vice president; Ms. Margie Hayes, Ms. Dons Brook. Games were played and lots of fun shared. JHuntley-Chambers-Punlap Reunion Held in Washington The Huntley-Chambers-Dunlap family reunion was , held in Washington, D.C., July 18, at the Saint Mat thew Baptist Church. The fellowship hall was filled to capacity with members standing around the wall, to celebkite their i om year oi fellowship. . j t snon program or songs, prayers and remarks was followed by the welcoming of new members. Presenta tions were made to the family who traveled the longest ' distance, the oldest and youngest members present. Din ner was served by. the Washington hostesses. Durhamites attending the reunion were Mr . and Mrs. James Rempson and family and Mr. and Mrs. Henry Hubbard. ' Plans are that the 1982 reunion will convene in Youngstown, Ohio on the fourth Saturday in jiily. Thrifty Service Club On August 8, the Thrifty Service Club met at Hender son Center to celebrate the birthdays of Mrs. Mildred Gattis and Louise Thompson. V ; ? ? The dining room was beautifully decorated for the oc casion. Mrs. Beatrice Holman, the vice president, presided and Mrs. Geneva Rogers led the devotions. Following the reading of the minutes, a discussion was held on plans for visiting a local theatre and a picnic is planned for August 29 at the BCU unit. Mesdames Gattis and Thompson served a delicious dinner. Members present were: Mesdames' Pauline Hart, Queenie Cooper, Pauline Boxley, Beatrice Holman, Elnora' Ransom, Luna Holman; Geneva Rogers, Rosetta Cobb, Laura Thorpe, Mable Bryant, Mildred GaTtis,Lula Hester; Milia Williams, Bessie Pratt, Ozell Flowers Christine Sales, Marie Harris, Pearlie Walker and visitors Mmes. Celestine Saunders. Effie Thompson, Gladys Richardson, Ella Dove, and Roberta Glover w' , y-? y .n The next meeting will be held with Mrs. Bessie Pratt and Mrs. Lillie Adams. Daughters Of Dorcas . On August 7, Mrs. Ernestine Young hosted the Daughters pf Dorcas at her home on Kirby Street. The vice president, Mrs. Clumpertee Tucker, presided. :MMrs. Tucker reported that President Gazella P. Lipscomb had undergone the scheduled operation and was recovering nicely. During the opening session, Mrs. Tucker quizzed the group on the biblical story of Dorcas, read at the preceding meeting. Then she read the biblical story of Ruth, on which she.will quiz at the next meeting. After the business session, Mrs. Lyda Merrick fur nished a program. After speaking briefly of her recent trip to Washington and some current events, she displayed and explained a group of oil painting and charcoal drawings which she had done. Then she bad a prize for the person picking the lucky star. Mrs. Julia Harris was lucky and received a charcoal drawing of the head of a Negro girl. Mrs. Young, assisted by her daughters, Ms. Jeann nette Thomas and Ms. Janet Young, served a delicious dinner. Mrs. Julia Harris thanked her for her gracious and bountiful hospitality. Present : were: Mesdames Ethel Bradshaw, Lottie Campbell, Elise Green, Eulalia Harris, Julia Harris, Sallie Harris, Lillie Hudson, Ada Leach, Margaret Mack, Johnnie McLcster, Lyda Merrick, Lorraine Thorpe, Clumpertee Tucker, and Ernestine Young. Guests were Mrs. Carlotta R. Holmes and Marion Mayberry. . The next meeting is scheduled for September 3 with Mrs. Artelia Bryant. Friendly La$es Meet the Friendly Ladies Club met at the home of Mrs. Hannah Roberson, 810 Cox Avenue, on Sunday, August 9, with Mrs. Magdaline Llewellyn as co-hostess.
