Ben Hooks her 15-year strug
gle to become a "star." She
relates several '' humorous
anecdotes, which molded her
to success, but also delivers a
serious message about the
"do's" and "don'ts" of
building a ; show business
career.
Two years ago, a team of
young, black doctors bought
the then bankrupt Western
Park Hospital Center in Los
Angeles and ' have since
transformed into a thriving,
196-bed acute care facility,
which specializes in the
causes ; and prevention of
diseases - linked f to " ethnic
heritage. The Center's physi
cians discuss the need for
more black doctors to serve
inner city communities and
to help establish other
hospitals, where minorities
. can receive personalized at-'
t tention from ; professionals
who are sensitive to their
distinct physicar ana emo
tional requirements.ii t

LeBaron Taylor, CBS
Records Divisional Affairs

marketing specialist, Dr. H.
Naylor Fitzhughe, were
respectively named
president-elect and chairman
of the National Association
of Market Developers
(NAMD) at the twenty
eighth annual conference
held in Philadelphia, Pa.
NAMD is a professional
organization comprised of
minorities in public relations,
marketing and communica
tions that underlines the
needs of the black consumer
market.
U. S. Secretary of Housing
and Urban Development,
Samuel Pierce, Jr., delivered
the NAMD awards banquet
keynote address before 500
guests in his first major ap
pearance, before a
predominately black au
dience. Pierce, the highest ranking
black in the, Reagan ad
ministration, echoed the
President's recurrent theme
of less government interven
tion in the daily lives of the
electorate. . ? ?
He said the proposed cuts
in federal spending win not
be easy at first, -'but in the
long run will bolster the na
tion's economy.
Taylor was also recently
re-elected head of the Black
Music Association at the
organization's annual con
ference held in Los Angeles,
California.

' In warm weather, it seems
unlikely that you could save
energy and keep comfortably
cool. But here, air conditioner
or not, are some tips to help
you and your family beat
the heat and conquer high
energy costs:
Take advantage of
the daily
temperature

dows and

night air

house and shut them during
