Genealogists ■ avetraced the family roots from Vance County, Ox- ‘ ord and Durham, North Carolina. The families of; late Mary M. Dugger Green and Frances Dugger i^sh selected the “City of Brotherly Love” to meet; ith their oldest surviving member of the family, Irs. Kitty B. Cornelia Talley Dugger Curtis. Mrs.; lurtis, who celebrated her 86th birthday anniversary | August 1, is the widow of the late John L. Mrs. Effie Edwards, Celious Stewart and Mrs. illamae Bailey were present to help their 'tentennarian-plus” mother-grandmother enjoy the itcasion. Ms, Vivian H. Walker, a member of St. Joseph’s IME Church, accompanied by Fred Mason, Jr., of nimanuel Temple SDA Church, furnished the music ith such songs as “The Old Rugged Cross”,: Jacob’s Ladder”, “Where He Leads Me” and; 'How Great Thou Art”. The honoree was all smiles and excited as she' eceived many gifts and cards from friends and datives. A card and flowers were received from iayor Harry Rodenhizer. ' The rest home residents joined in the festive occa- ion as the singing could be heard throughout the ome. ing, reviewing family portraits, and the Parade of ^Families. A beautiful scroll of the “Family Tree”' was presented to Mrs. Kitty Curtis who responded' with an orginal poem entitled, “Dugger Memoirs”. An oil portrait of her late mother, Mrs. Mary M. Dugger Greeiij was presented to Mrs. Julia Cornelia Patterson, planning coordinator of the family reu nion. A magic show and disco were provided for the children in attendance. : A farewell brunch was held for out-of-town guests" at the home of Mrs. J. Cornelia Patterson on Sun day. Next year’s family reunion is scheduled to take place in Durham. Relatives and friends were in attendance from North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Washington, D.C., and New York. Those in atten-, dance from Durham were: William A. Marsh, III,' John H. Curtis, Mr. and Mrs. William Bumpers, Mr. and Mrs. J. Quinton Parker, Michael Parker and guest, Ms. Ann Fulton, Ms. LaQuinta Parker and Mrs. Lucinda Harris. Retirement Dinner-Dance On August 8, a buffet dinner and dance were held at the Downtowner Motor Inn to honor Mrs. Lettie B. Herndon on her retirement from the Veterans Ad ministration Hospital. She was feted by her super visors, co-workers, family and friends. Honors in cluded gifts and tributes of appreciation for her years of dedicated service. A special gift was a beautifully inscribed clock/plaque unit from her supervisors and cb-workers. Mrs. Herndon, an ever-busy person, plans to spend her retirement in further humanitarian and church activities as well as getting in some relaxation.
