Mrs. Kay Tynetia Privette spent the weekend with her mother, Mrs. Gwendolyn T. Daniel of Durham. She is a rising junior at East Carolina University. Miss Inga Perry spent the weekend with her grandmother, Mrs. Virginia Kenion, in Durham. She is a rising junior at East Carolina University. James Turrcntine of Virginia is home spending a few days with his mother, Mrs. Jessie Turrcntine, and grandmother, Mrs. Willie Rhodes. Happy birthday anniversary to Master Kenneth Harris, Joe Pcarlcy, Rev. T.C. Jones. Congratulations and best wishes to newlyweds Mr. and Mrs. James Robert Jones. Linwood Turrcntine and Mrs. Shirley Bryant and K. Hicks, all of Washington, DC, have returned home after spending a long weekend with their mother, Mrs. Jessie Turrcntine. Annual Homecoming was observed at Lakewood Baptist Church, Sunday morning, October 25. Deacon Charles Reddish presided. Program participants were Rev. CJifton Bullock, pastor; J. McDuffie. Rev. Hodges, Ms. Gwen Wall, j Victor Parker, Jr.. Ms. Sharon Gray, Ms. Altheria Reddish, Ms. Pamela Reddish, Bennie Holcman, Sr. and Rev. Curcion Johnson, guest speaker and pastor of Red Mountain Baptist Church. Music was rendered by the Red Mountain Baptist Church Male Chorus and the Senior Men Ushers served. Edmonds and Family Friendly Circle Meets On Sunday, October 18, Friendly Circle Club of Si.- Mark AME Zion Church held its monthly meeting with Mrs. Florence Littlejohn on Lawson St. Devotionals were conducted by the president, Mrs. Helen McNeil, and a business meeting follow ed. Members present were: Mesdames Lena Thomp son, Len Jones, Mildred Woody, Mary Coward, Helen McNeil, Corene Brown, Sarah Cameron, Violet Stallsworth, Juanita Barnes, Dazel Stevens, Hattie Geer, Oveta Byas; and GroverJJurthey. The club welcomed Mrs. Mary Coward as a new member. A delicious dinner was served by the hostess and G. Burthey thanked her for a most enjoyable even ing. Garden Club Holds Monthly Meeting Mrs. Georgia M. Taylor hosted the West Durham Blossom Garden Club at Tapp's Hut on Fayetteville Street on Tuesday night, Oct. 20. The Garden Gate was opened by Mrs. Alease Bynum, after which the vice president, Mrs. Ger trude Gibson, presided over the meeting. On the agenda for discussion were: the suggested program by Mrs. Helen Brown for raising funds for the council; plans were finalized for a Christmas breakfast on December 17 when gifts will be ex changed; Holiday House will be held on December 20; reports from the flower show at South Square recently; a report by Mrs. Doris Reddrick on the flower show she attended in Greensboro, Oct. 16-17; birthday gifts were presented to Ms. Cornet ta Williams, Ms. Doris Reddrick and Ms. Mary Louise Stephens by the club members; and, Mrs. Mary Jarmon gave a most interesting and infor mative report on "Herbs for Health and Seasoning." She brought samples of herbs and told how herbs are now used for medicinal purposes. A delicious dinner was enjoyed by the following members: Mmes. Margaret Allen, Mary Allison, Alease Bynum, Beulah C. Edwards, Margaret Fuller, Gertrude Gibson, Daisy Gunn, Mary Hor ton, Mary Jarmon, Mary Love, Mary McCIary, Naomi Parker, Doris L. Reddrick, Georgia Taylor, Cornetta Williams and Misses Ruth annd Mary Louise Stephens. Mrs. Margaret Fuller thanked the hostess Yor an enjoyable evening. The November meeting will be hosted by her at which time gifts will be brought for a needy family.
