' , v " Durham County Fair was an opportunity for members to exhibit their creative talent. Ms. Genevieve McCrea won first prize in flower arrangement in the Planf and Flower Department. She also won first prize in Christmas Decoration. Ms. Josephine Robinson won second prize on green beans and field peas in the category of Garden Vegetables. The gardeners participated in the Annual Indian Summer's Vintage Stan dard Flower Show, presented by the Durham Council of Garden Clubs. Ms. McCrea received first award and Ms. Vivian Timlic received second award in the House Plants division. . : La Petite gardeners enjoyed a picnic given by the Better Homes and Gardens Club. Ms, Helen Brpwn was hostess and La Petite members presented to her a lovely planter as a token of appreciation. Residents of the Sunshine Rest Home enjoyed the annual picnic given by the' gardeners. Ms. Timlic directed the games, read stories and poems. She also presented a gift to the newest member. Ms. Mildred Goode provided piano music and led the singing. Ms. Lelah Smith and her committee prepared and served an entire dinner. The club members attended the North Carolina State Fair in Raleigh. Ms. McCrea won three first places in flower arrangements. She also won second p ace in a mrniature arrangement using fresh material. Ms. Timlic won second place in the House Plant category. ,Lu,PfLit5 ?arden,crs enived a day with the Gate City Council of Garden Club s 16th Annual Standard Flower Show and Bazaar in Greensboro. Mrs. W.B. Saunders was hostess for the October meeting of La Petite Gardeners as they celebrated their 32nd Anniversary with games, songs and a ! big birthday cake that brought everyone to her feet and a burst of "Happy Bir thday to Us". Every member was present to enjoy this hilarious occasion. During the formal meeting which opened the evening, reports were made on the various activities of the month, including the "Dig" which was held on Saturday. Preparations are being made for the annual Christmas Decoration Show which will be held in the auditorium of the J.J. Henderson Towers on Duke St., in December. Mrs. Lela Smith will be hostess for the November meeting.
