Abdul-Mani, a man from Washington ' D.C., who is charged j with conspiracy in a 1980 murder in the capital and with perjury before the Grand Jury. Taking no position on the guilt or innocence of minority defendants, the fund works to .secure their rights under the Eighth : Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which prohibits excessive bail. Eight denomina tions have made up the fund, a program located in the National Council of Churches' Division of Church and Society.
