Smith High : School" at the school's annual pageant recently. Miss Sharon M. Fuller, a 1979 graduate of South : View High School and a junior at Winston-Salem State University, has been named queen of Phi Mu Alpha at the school. . Mrs. Beverly Scott will be a consultant for the Cross Creek Reading Council on Saturday, November 21 , at the Cumberland Road Elementary School from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Members of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity gathered Sunday evening for a special program. Dr. Uzzell was the keynote speaker. The program was held at St. Luke AME Church located on Hillsboro St. '- Members of the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority gathered for fellowship on Saturday evenjng. After the business session, everyone was invited to a delicious treat. Well wishers and supporters are striving to keep the Miss Fayetteville Pageant. Our very own Miss Darlene Cropper, Miss Fayetteville of .1980, was first runner-up in the Miss North Carolina competi tion the best any Miss Fayetteville has done since 1947. Gardeners Organize Junior Club La Petite Gardeners organized La Petite Junior Garden Club November 13 at the Forest Hills Recreation Center. The following girls registered as members: Willie Bass, Stacie Blanchard, Eugenia Harrington, Tif . fany Jones, Kathy Mann, Kimberly Shyler, Sherry Smith, Margaret Webb, Kecia Samuel, Anethia Witherspoon. , - The Garden Gate was Opened by Mrs. G. Mc Crea, president of the sponsoring club. She told the group that the purposes of the club are to: stimulate' the love of gardening; promote better horticultural practices; encourage conservation of natural resources; promote the fine art of flower designing; develop an interest in flower show practices; and, encourage home and community beaut ificat ion. Get acquainted activities were conducted by Mrs. J. Robinson, Mrs M. Grant, and Mrs. W. Saunders. An attractive table was set up for refreshments. The door prize was presented to Willie Bass. The following officers were elected: Kecia Samuel, president; Tiffany Jones, vice president; Kathy Mann, secretary; Sherry Smith, assistant secretary, and Willie Bass, treasurer. Mrs. McCrca and Mrs. Grant assisted the girls in the project, "Christmas for the Birds". They made pinecone bird feeders using suet, peanut butter,. Nandina berries and birdseed. One feeder was left for the birds at the park. The project will be on' display at the Annual Christmas Show. The coordinator of the club, Miss Vivian Timlic, expressed appreciation to the senior Club members -for their cooperation and to Mrs. E. Sherrill for helping to recruit members. Miss Timlic gave the schedule of activities for November and December which includes: A Christmas Workshop for Children at Duke Power Company, November 23; participation in the Annual Christmas Show, December 6; a visit to the Mary L. Stephens Holi day House, December 13-16; and the regular mon thly meeting, December II. The Park's and Recreation Department approved the Forest Hills Recreation Center as a regular meeting place for the Junior Club., Helpers Club Plans 1 Activity At Rest Home The Helpers .-' Club held its regular monthly meeting Sunday, November 15, at the home of Miss Annie Dunigan. ., Presiding was r Mrs. Sadie Chambers, president. The highlight of the evening was the planning of the trip to a rest home on Booker St., Saturday, November 21, the purpose of which is to make the residents of the home feel that they are being remembered for Thanksgiving. - The hostess served a delicious repast to the following members: Mme. The Sunshine Rest Home is located on Hanson Road. The Senior Missionary Society of St. Joseph's AME .Church includes all adult members of the Carolina Barnes, Mary C. Evans, Sarah Allen. Trumilla Smith and Rosa Parks units. They arc named for outstanding missionary leaders among African Methodist Episcopal Church women.
