filiation, will celebrate its 103rd anniversary oil
Saturday and Sunday, December 5-6.
: The 31st annual banquet will be held on Saturday
at 7:30 p.m., in the Fellowship Hall at White Rock

Salome Temple No. 704's Guys & Dolls Contest,
Talent Show and Raffle were held Sunday, ,
November 22, at the Bull City Elks Lodge No. 317.
Young participants, 6-16, demonstrated their
talents in piano, Karate, violin, poetry, singing, ,
dancing and much more.
Winners of the Guys & Dolls Contest were: First
place, Brian Maurice Reaves and second place,
James Kevin Reaves, both sons of Mr. and Mrs. (
James Reaves; third place, Nikki Caroway Devone,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Louis S. Devone, fourth '
place, Reginald Braswell, son ot Lee Brasweu.
Raffle winners were Mr. Hill, ham; Ms. Phyllis ;
McLean, turkey; Ms. Nannie Tomlin, sirloin tips. ;
Special guests included friends from Murdock v.
Center at Butner; Ms. Margaret Vosburgh, NY, : ?

Celebrate Birthdates
Mrs. Christine Sales and Mrs. Elizabeth Edwards
entertained, the Thrifty Service Club auhe homeof
Mrs. Sales recently. Mrs. Genevieve Rogers con
ducted the devotion and Mrs. Alice Wilson read a .
beautiful poem. The president, Mrs. Aline Davis,
led the discussion of the annual Christmas banquet
and the giving of gifts to needy families and con
valescent home residents.
Club members sang the birthday song to Mrs.
Sales and Mrs. Edwards. They received lovely gifts.
The hostesses served a delicious turkey dinner
with all the trimmings.
Those enjoying the evening were Mrs. Anzella
Hancock, a guest; members Mmes. Alice Wilson,
Marie McMillian, Aline Davis, Pauline Boxley,
Mozell Flintall, Bessie Pratt, Lillie Adams, Queen
Cooper, Millie Williams, Laura Thorpe, Genevieve
Rogers, Lula Hester, Willie M. Jones, Louise
Thompson, Mattie Jones, Stattie Russ, Pearlie M.
Walker, Mary Vanhook, Vergie Mangum, Beatrice
Holeman, Rosetta Cobb, Mable Bryant.
An executive meeting will be held in January at
the home of Mrs. Davis.
La Petite Gardeners At
Duke Power Company
La Petite Gardeners recently visited the Duke
Power Company where Ms. Bernadette Jones ex
plained the Residential Conservation Program and
demonstrated the making of Christmas decora
tions. Ms. Jones told the gardeners how they could con
duct their own do-it-yourself analysis using a com
plete instruction booklet or by having one of Duke
Power's energy specialist visit and inspect their
homes.
Ms. Jones then demonstrated the making of
Christmas decorations. Some of the most
fascinating were: rake in compliments, pet stock
ing, pompon doorknob wreath and the snowman.
Booklets containing instructions for making
Christmas decorations, background information
about the RCS program and recipes were
distributed to members.
Refreshments were served from a beautifully
decorated table with an attractive Christmas Bread
Centerpiece made and demonstrated by Ms. Jones.
The Junior La Petite Garden Club attended a
similar demonstration November 23.
