Hayestown Seniors Have j Christmas Party , The Hayesf own Community Senior Citizens Club had it's Christmas party on December 14 at the Hayestown Community Center. Prayer, was given by Rev. C. Club Meets The Price Street Neighborhood Club held its ' regular monthly meeting on December 11 at the . home. of. Mrs. Queen E. Toon; - j A short devotion was held with the reading bf the Christmas story and singing Christmas carols. Miss Annie Dunnigan, the president, presided. Gifts were, brought for the sick and shut-in in a , nursing home. A 'sunshine basket' was made up by each member present bringing a gift. Gifts were also sent by the following absent members: Mmes. Mur ma Dunnegan, Sadie Pough, Margaret Jones, Fidelia Brooks, Hazel McBroom, Hastie Price, Eliza San ford. ' . The hostess served a Christmas dinner to Mmes. Annie Dunnigan, Roberta Edmundson, Elmira Flintall, Lucy Holloway, Cora Brown, Tennie Kornegay, Gladys Faucette, Servater Evans and Daniel Johnson. A Christmas party at Dunham's will climax the meetings for the year and the January meeting will be at the home of Mrs. Lucy Holloway. District No. 1 Holds Annual Dinner Church held its annual Christmas dinner on Sun-; day, December 13, at the home of Misses Mary L. and Ruth Stephens. Members present were Mmes. Mrs. Weaver Entertains Philathea Class The Philathea Class of the White Rock Baptist Church was entertained by Mrs. Mamie Weaver, teacher emeritus, at the home of Mr. and Mrs'. Herbert Weaver on Sunday, December 6. The Christmas theme was observed throughout . the meeting and a delicious dinner was served. AUG.'S CHOIR BRINGS HOLIDAY CHEER The Saint Augustine's College Choir presented it's Christmas Concert recently in the Fine Arts Theater on campus. They performed Christmas selections from "The Messiah." The choir will be featured on a Calvacade series during the holiday season on WUNC-TV Channel 4. Gaf den Club Sponsors Holiday House Visiting Home The West Garden Club sponsored House" on December 20, Durham members 'Holiday Sunday, at the home of the Stephens on Powe Street. Council Holds 14th Annual Christmas Program Beta Zeta Chapter of the National Sorority of Phi Delta Kappa, visited the Leisure World Rest Home Sunday, December 6. The group carried fruits and sang Christmas carols withj the residents. Pictures were taken and spirits seemed happier. Members of the council prepared and brought their favorite dishes for a covered dish buffet for about seventy persons. Vergil Wright, toastmaster, opened the program with a short statement about the origin and mission of the council and reviewed some community im provements brought about by the work of the council. fc He expressed the group's sadness at the recent deaths of. Harry Phillips and Messrs 'Henry Gunn, Jr., Lee Jones,' Jamer Reddrick, Benjamin Mc Clary, James Rogers and Willie Love. Members present were Mmes. Stephens. Mrs. Allen thanked the hostesses for a very enjoyable breakfast and a Merry Christmas was wished to everyone. Reverend Michael Wendt, pastor of Abiding Savior, gave the invocation. He was followed by Exter Gilmore who gave the blessing. Just before the dinner, Dr. James F. Blue gave a Christmas , message including a special reading on the meaning of Christmas. Thomas Covington, a retired, former profes sional singer, sang "Silent Night" and was joined in other Christmas carols by the audience. Mrs. Gloria Timberlake was the organist. Guests were introduc ed by members who in vited them. Special ex pressions of thanks were offered to Willie Crews who prepared the meats.
