S514.424.000 during the
four weeks ended
February 3. 1982, com
pared with S491.515.000
for the similar period last
year, an increase of 4.7
percent.
For the 32 weeks end
ed February 3, 1982,- the
total was $3,990,202,000
comoared with
S3.749.349.000 a year
ago, an increase of 6.4
per cent. . v,
The company opened
17 new stores and dosed
15 since last June 24,
having 1.222 units in
Operation on February 3,
compared with 1,216 last
year.
Students To
Compete In
Quiz Bowl
The Civic Committee
of the Durham Commit
tee on the Affairs of
Black People will spon
sored the Third Annual
Black History Quiz Bowl
on Sunday. February 28,
at 2 p.m., at the Hillside
High School auditorium.
It will be held as the
culminating event for
Black History Month.
The Quiz Bowl, to be
modeled after the
popular College Bowl-
will feature high school
students who will com
pete by answering ques
tions on Black History.
All high schools located
in the city and county of
Durham, including
Durham Academy and
the School of Math and
Science, have been in
vited to field teams.
The Hillside High
School team won the
1981 competition.
The public is invited to
attend. There is no ad
mission fee.

Programs Set
For Sunday
Concluding its Black
History Month obser
vance, Stanford L. War
ren Branch Library will
present two music
oriented programs on
Sunday . afternoon,
February 27.
Beginning at 2 p.m.,
"Reminiscing with Black
Gospel Music", will
feature The Greater Joy
Ensemble and Rev. A.L..
Pegram who will present
"The Meaning of
Spirituals to Black Peo
ple". At 4 p.m., the Rhythm
Movers of the St.
Joseph's Performance
Center, will present
"The Musical Triangle:
A Rhythmical Journey in
Dance Via Africa, the
Caribbean and the
United States. Ms.
Sadiyah Abd-Shakur is
the instructor.
The public is invited.
