1 0 THE CAROLINA TIKES Edmonds1 Colloquium Considers Black Church ' "The Hack Church In Historical Perspective" will be the theme of the sixth annual Helen G. . Edmonds History Collo quium at North Carolina Central University, Fri day and Saturdday, March 5 and 6. ' Scholars participating in the colloquium will address such topics as the political leadership of black ministers, the black church prior to the Civil War, the education of black ministers, the symbolism of spirituals, the history of the United Holy Church, and black Catholics in the 19th cen tury. The colloquium will open with registration at the Alfonso Elder stu dent Union at NCCU at . 8 a.m., Friday, March 5. Most sessions will be held at the Alfonso Elder Student Union. Sher: ; man Jackson, Miami University of Ohio. "Founding Fathers and Builders of the United Holy Chruch of America, Inc.," Chester Gregory, Coppin State College. "Perceptions Of the Spirit in a Dark Skin: Peter Benoit's Diary Observations of Black Catholics in the United States in the 1870s," Larry L. Martin, Coppin State College. ""The Black Church as a Social and Political In stitution, 1960-1980," J. Ranaldo Lawson. A special letter by Dr. Lenwood Davis of Montclair State College, "Miles Mark Fisher: Minister, Historian, and Cultural Philosopher," is scheduled at 7 p.m., Friday, ' at Durham's White Rock Baptist Church. Dr. Fisher was the long-time pastor of that church. The lectures will be open to the public at no charge. A luncheon and ban quet are also scheduled during the program in Dr. Edmonds honor.
