The Lillie McDade Circle had its first meeting of
the year, at the home of the Daniels on Cooper
Street.
The meeting opened with devotions by Mrs. Ruth
Washington, Mrs. Hattie Johnson and Mrs. Rober

Crusader Club Meets
The Crusader Club met February 27 at the home
of Ms. Ruth Allen on Atlantic St.
Following a brief devotion, Mrs. Stella Alston,
president, presided over the business session. Plans
were discussed for a summer trip.
The hostess served a delicious repast.
Those enjoying this hospitality were: Mrs. Reefus
Richmond, Mrs. Sarah Pugh, Mrs. Stella Alston,
Mrs. Minnie Jones, Mrs. Geneva Allison, Ms. Ruth
Allen.
Mrs. Pugh thanked the hostess for a most en
joyable evening.
The next meeting will be held at the home of Mrs.
Allison, 2902 Fayetteville St., March 27, 7:30 p.m.

West Durham Garden Club
On Tuesday evening February 23, Mrs. Mary
Allison hosted the West Durham Blossom Garden
Club at home on Cecil Street.
Her beautiful potted plants decorated the house
throughout. After the opening of the Garden Gate
by Mrsv Mary Love, the president presided over the
business session. ?
During this session, discussions centered on the
flower show sponsored by the council on May 2; the
:. Adopt-A-Block by the Clean Community System of
Durham, Inc., in April; a workshop on April 17 at
Lyon Park Recreation Center, the workshop on ,
. March 22-23 on Artistic Arrangements and How to

Thrifty Service Club
Mrs. Genevieve Rogers served as hostess to the
Thrifty Service Club FebrUary 27 in her home on
Charles Street in observance of her birthday. Mrs.
Aline Dayis, president, presided and Mrs. Rogers
led the devotion.
Reports-were given from various committees. A
standing vote of thanks was given the treasurer,
Mrs. Ma,ry Vanhook for a job well done. Plans are
being made to take trips, in April to attend the
Azalea Festival; in June to attend the World's Fair;
and, in August to visit in Atlantic City, N.J.
Mrs. Rogers received many lovely gifts and cards
and a beautiful floral arrangement from her sister
in Newport News, Va.
After a delicious dinner, Mrs. Laura Thorpe
thanked the hostess.
Guests were Rev. J. W. Hamilton and Frank
Williams.

the scene for the Fund Raising Committee's Home
Cooked Dinner. Music . for the dinner was provided

PGDR Circle of Elks as the first Aenl Prcsident for
the State of North Carolina. Dt. Singleton is Loyal
Daughter Ruler of 5th District Progressive Council,
a life member of Salama Temple No. 704, Daughicr
of Elk and a member of Mount Vernon Baptist
Church.
The Progressive Council and the Baxter Council
No. 127 will meet Sunday, March 14 in Chapel Hill
at, the Elk's Home at 3 p.m. Transportation will be
provided for members.
The Elk family is wishing a speedy recovery for
Dt. Lillie Turner's husband. Virgil Turner, a pa
tient in the Veterans Hospital irt Durham and also
to Dt. Ruler Florene Moore's brother. Earnest
Morgan, in Wake Medical Center.

Birthday-gifts were presented to Mrs. Mary Love by
Ms. Daisy Gunn and a basket of gifts were
presented to the Lyon Rest Home.
A delicious dinner was enjoyed by the following
members: Mmes. Alease Byrium, Anna Duke,
Margaret Fuller, Gertrude Gibson, Daisy Gunn,
Mary Jarmon, Mary Love, Mary McClary, Naomi
Parker, Doris' Reddrick, Cornetta Williams and
Misses Ruth and Mary Louise Stephens. The march
meeting will be hosted by Mrs. Alease Bynum. Mrs.
Anna Duke thanked the hostess for an enjoyable
evening.
Junior Club Organized
On Saturday, Feb.' 20, members of the West
Durham Blossom Club rftet at the home of Mrs.
Georgia Taylor at 104 rfe St., to organize a Junior
Club. Juniors present were: Sherrill Jones,; Carol
Payton; Crissy Peele, Ursula Reddrick, Delphine
"DD" Rogers and Georginna Taylor. Ursula Red
drick was chosen as president of the club which will
meet monthly. Mrs. Gertrude Gibson and Mrs.
Doris Reddrick are to be the advisors.
Refreshments were served at the close of the
meeting. . t
Tau Gamma Delta To
Hold Regional Meet
The Southern Regional Conference of Tau Gam
ma Delta Sorority, Inc., will convene at the Atlanta ,
American Motor Hotel in downtown Atlanta
March 12-14, with Mu Omega Chapter serving as
host. Representatives from all chapters in the
southern region are expected to be in attendance as
well as several undergraduate chapters and national .
officers.
In addition to the regular business sessions, other
highlights of the conference include: a social and
hospitality hour, an address by the national presi
dent, Mrs. Noma Scott or Baltimore. Md..
workshops, exhibits, an Awards Banquet, and the
presentation of a regional scholarship.
Attending from the Durham chapter will be:
Mmes. Virginia Alston, Ora L. Bryant, president of
Lambda Chapter; Lizzie M. Crews, Evelyn Deck,
Oriel Dillard, tucinda M. Harris, Omega Parker,
Violet P. Rogers, and Mary C. Thomas.
