HOWARD is crowned "1982 LPN of the Year" by Ms. Hattie S. Bass, "1981 LPN of the Year". Ms. Mamie H. Howard was crowned 1982 LPN of the year by the Durham Area unit of the N.C. Licensed Practical Nurses Association. Ms Hattie S. Bass, 1981 LPN of the Year did the honors. The event was part of the annual LPN Ball held recently at the Bull City Elks Lodge. Ms. Howard competed for the N.C, State LPN of the Year title at the state convention held May 8 in Fayetteville. Bass, 1981 LPN; Ms. Geraldine Lunsford, first Campus Hills Council To Present Food Conservation , Workshop The May meeting of the Campus Hills Communi ty Council will be held at 5 p.m. Sunday, May 16, at the Abiding Savior Lutheran Church on South Alston Avenue. Mrs. Bernadette Watts, Durham County Extension Home Economist, will present a Food Conservation Workshop and discuss the Ex tension's resources for community development. The Council's Social Committee will report on plans for the community picnic. Smith, third runner-up, is not shown, Durhamites Attend Recital Of Henry McDowell, Jr. ! The North Carolina School of the Arts in Winston-Salem presented Henry McDowell, Jr., in his Senior Recital at the organ on Saturday, May 1, ; in Crawford Hall. He is a student of Dr. John S. Mueller. Immediately following the recital a reception was held in the conference room acrpss the hall. Guests from Durham were: Mrs. Sarah O. Borden, Misses Cora Allen, Travesa Tucker, Kathy Harris, Deborah McDowell, Demisha and Mrs. Ruth McDowell. A 1978 graduate of Durham High School, McDowell will graduate from the School of the Arts on May 29. McDowell is a member of St. Mark AME Zion Church and a member of the National Christian Youth Council of the AME Zion Church. He served four years as organist of St. Mark. He recently returned from a study tour of Europe. He is the son of Mrs. Ruth McDowell of Durham. Forestview Heights Extension Homemakers Activities The Forestview Heights Extension Homemakers sponsored a Disco for youths at the Masonic Hall recently. A drawing of tickets sold by members resulted in Ms. Lucia Ward winning the first prize, a hand made quilt. Ms. Emma Gee won the second prize, a country ham. Members working at the affair with refreshments and at the door were: Mmes. Alese Bobo, Minnie :7T - I "v Nurse Marie Bradley of The Purple Cross Nurses Unit of 407 Durham was crowned "Nurse of the Year" at the N.C. State Elk Convention held in Raleigh May 2 at the Health Program. Director is Dr. J.E. Jones of Elizabeth City; Directress is Nurse Elizabeth Vereen, Durham. First runner-up was Nurse Josephine Harris of Raleigh. Ladies Aide: Society The regular monthly meeting of the Ladies Aide Society was held recently at the home of Mrs. Hazel Rich on Kahewood Drive Hostesses were Mrs. Harriette Miller and Mrs. Margaret Fuller. Mrs. Mary McClary led the devotion. The treasurer's and various committee reports were ap proved. A buffet brunch was served.
