Please note correct time and date. , 'Lyon Park Seniors The Senior Citizens of the Lyon Park Recrea- . tional Center participated in a program and fashion show recently. A hand made quilt was won by Mrs. Ruby Lassiter who had the lucky ticket. The quilt was started by the late Mrs. Lola Staley and was com pleted by her daughter, Mrs. Bessie Smith and other Senior members of the Center. Proceeds from the . sale of tickets were donated, to the Wonderful Senior Citizens Club. Items of ceramics and macrame made by the members were on display. Mrs. Doris Sowell is coordinator of the Center. The annual program for the Wonderful Senior Gtizens during Senior Citizens' Month will be presented on Saturday, May 22, at 5 p.m. Quest speaker will be Adolphus Coward. Macrame, ceramics and other items made by the Seniors will be on display and some will be for sale. Refreshments will be served. All are invited. A trip to Holy Land USA is being sponsored on Saturday, June 5. Buses will leave the First Calvary Baptist Church parking lot at 7:30 a.m. For infor mation and reservations, contact Mrs. Doris Sowell or Mrs. M.W. Webb. ' ; Daughters Of Dorcas . On May 7, Mrs. Elise Green entertained the Daughters of Dorcas at her home on Baker Street. Mrs. Clumpertee Tucker, president, presided. Also Mrs. Green treated the group to the recitation of an ' original Mother's Day Poan. '. 1 Mrs. Sadie Carry voiced the thanks of the group for Mrs. Green's hospitality. Lyon Park Rose Garden Club , The Lyon Park Rose Garden Club held its May - meeting at the home of Mrs. Dorothy Blakeney on South Roxboro Street. .. Mrs. Mary E. Young conducted the devo tions. Mrs. Susie Craig conducted the meeting and received reports from all committees. A repast was served. The next meeting will be held at Henderson Grove Baptist Church on May 23 at 7 p.m. Spring Flower Show Two top awards the Sweepstakes, for most blue ribbons and the Tri-Color, in design exhibits were won by Ms. Charlotte Miller of Azalea Garden Club in the "Awakening of Spring" Flower Show, held at Henderson Towers on May 2. The Best In Show Award was won by Mrs Margaret Allen of the West Durham Blossom Chi' for best in the entire horticulture show. The Spring Fragrance Award went to Mr Mamie S. McNeil, unsighted, for identifying the largest number of fragrances. Mrs. Minnie ' Cromartie of Better Homes & Gardens Club took the Creativity Award for a design exhibit featuring one or more objects from the sea. . All participating clubs received one or more blue ribbons, including West Durham Blossom Juniors and Lyon Park Garden Club Juniors. , There were five divisions and sixty classifications in the show.
