The museum director words of praise for the two and their committee. "They have spent many hours contacting donors and collecting objects from various homes. Our donors have given many beautiful paintings, figurines, silver objects, and other fine pieces," Pendergraft said. Pendergraft said that many of the pieces donated have estimated values substantially . in excess of the $20 value I donors were asked to use as a lower limit. The auction, which begins at 3 p.m. September 19 with ' viewing at 2 p.m., will benefit . the museum's Purchase Fund. It is sponsored by the NCCU Museum Service Group. The NCCU Museum of Art, which moved into its freestan ding . facility adjacent to the university's Fine Arts Building in 1977, is intended to serve primarily as a teaching institu tion. Its collection is therefore diverse in style, technique, medium, subject, and genre. Because the university is predominantly black, the museum collection includes a predominance of works fby American minority artists. The collection is not limited to such works, and has received and purchased a number of works by European artists, as well as traditional African art and some Oceanic pieces.
