Vgirt Despite the latest available, (1980) : U.S. census figures revealing a dramatic 47 per cent rise in the" number of inter-racial marrai'ges, an arti cle in Playgirf magazine's Oc tober issue notes that; racial prejudice is still alive and well and thriving in progressive America. t In the article "Inter-racial Love," writer Ben Fong Torres, a contributing editor to Rolling Stone who is Chinese and married to a white" woman, claims "I've heard of mixed couples being spat on or harrassed out of a truck stop." He unveils from his own personal : experience and from interviews with, other mixed couples the stigma at- tached to marrying out of one's kind as exemplified, says -Fong-Toixes, by the classic "raised eyebrows (at the least), that a mixed couple gets." Singing superstar Donna Summer, married to Brooklyn-born Bruce Sudano, is quoted in Playgirl as saying "My husband is a very hand some man, so . when people look, I think they're looking at him, not because I'm black." She continues, "We've been all over. We've been to Georgia together," but adds, "I don't know if I'd want to go into the deep South. "Instant Love", Cheryl's fourth Columbia LP, produced by Luther Vandross, took off earlier this summer via the title tune single that featured both artists in a duet; at the Roxy, Luther r was onstage to duet with Cheryl on the album's second single, "If This World Were Mine", the 1967 gem by Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell that closes the "Instant Love'r album. WFSS Holds ' Groundbreaking FAYETTEVILLE Fayet: teville's Public Radio Station, located on 'the campus of Fayetteville State University, recently held groundbreaking ceremonies on the site where the new broadcasting tower will be erected. . The 480 foot tower will be located in the wooded area in the rear of the Rudolph Jones .'. Student Center. Once the tower is completed, WFSS will increase power from 10 watts to 100,000 watts. The station will then be the only 100,000 r watt public radio station in - Southeastern NorthrCarolma.r- The WFSS signal will encom pass all of the eight ; North Carolina counties and some areas of South Carolina, reaching as many as 350,000 Carolinians. : H According to Architects Moorman, Little and Kizer, the construction is scheduled for completion by January at the latest.
