'is, k: Year Round Garden Club . The Year Round Garden Club met Monday, Oc-; tober 18, at the home of Mrs. Mary Thomas on -Lakeland Street. The Garden Gate was opened by Mrs. Emma Randolph. The president, Mrs. Wilma ' Milum, greeted the club and gave her usual inspira: tional message. The theme of her message was reaching out to help someone in some small way. ' She said a smile, a word of encouragement, or a deed of kindness will show that we care. She con; eluded her ' message with a - poem entitled, "Reaching Out." : 1 . Mrs.- Randolph and Miss Edna Mason gave highlights of the state convention that was held in Raleigh. Members ' were encouraged to visit the flower garden at the Old St. Joseph's Church on FayettcvUle Street. This 'garden. With its Oriental design, was planted and is maintaihed by the State Federation of Garden ; Qubs. Several members subscribed to "Talk and Tattler", a newsletter published by the Council of Garden Clubs. At the end of the business session, Mrs. Thomas served a full course dinner., Mrs. Randolph closed the Garden Gate. v r'.v . Oak Grove Floral Board The Oak Grove FWB Floral Board met Sunday afternoon, October' 24, at ihe home of Mr. and Mrs. William Lee on Omega Road. The second reading and discussion of the board's by-laws preceded their adoption by the group. Plans for the Christmas activities were discussed and names exchanged for gifts to be distributed at the dinner. The dinner is scheduled for December 5. Mrs. Dekns Rogers, a new member, was welcomed to the club. William Lee conducted the election of officers for 1982-83 and they were installed by Rev. Z.D. Harris. Armstrong United in Marriage TARBORO Miss Sandra LaVelle Williams and Gordon W. Armstrong were united in marriage here on Saturday, October 16 at Saint John Holiness Church. The bride's uncle, Reverend T.D. Jones, officiated at the double ring ceremony. The bride is the daughter of Elder John A. Williams, and Mrs. Deloise M. Williams. The groom's mother is Mrs. Virginia J. Armstrong. Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a princess-styled ivory gown of Moire taffeta with crystal-lite fabric neck and upper bodice accented 1 with Venice lace. The entire back bodice was closed by pearl buttons. The sleeves were tailored to the arm and came to a point on each hand. She wore a brim hat trimmed in Venice lace as base for her ' fingertip length veil of ivory illusion. She carried a bouquet of ivory, burgundy and daphne rose carna-! Hons, daisies, mums and roses with ivy and baby's -breath. . The matron of honor, Mrs,: Marian W. During the business session which followed, committee reports were adopted; purchasing a yearbook prepared by the council concerning the doings of junior clubs ; names were drawn for gifts to be exchanged by club members at a Christmas breakfast; gifts were presented to Cornetta Williams, Doris Reddrick and Mary Louise Stepehns whose birthdates come in October and Mrs. Margaret Allen gave a talk onn "Design in Gardening."
