Final riles for Andrew Leon Thompson, Jr. were held Saturday, October 16, at Ml Calvary United Church of Christ. Rev. J.C. Cheek, pasfpr, officiated. Burial was in Glennview Memorial Park. He died Sunday, October 10 at his residence. He was bom January -11, 1961 in Durham, a son of Mrs. Dorothy Thomas Thompson and the late Andrew L^n -niompson, Sr. He attended the public schools of Durham, including Hillside High School until his junior year. He graduated from Aiken (S.C.) Senior High School He was a former employee of the Washington Duke Inn and Golf Club, Durham, He was an artist. He was a mfember of ML Calvary United Church of Christ. Surviving, in addition to his mother, are: a sister, Mrs. Ruth Thompson Parker of Okinawa, Japan; three brothers, Eddie H. Thompson, Jcmaine Thomas and Darrell Thompson, all of Durham; maternal grandmother, Mrs. Sudie Thompson of Durham; two aunts, Mrs. Ida R. Thompson of Durham and Mrs. Mary Thomas of Wilton, Calif.; two uncles, Clarence L. Thomas of South Easton, Mass, and William Thompson of New York, .N.Y.; three nieces and a nephew. Burial was in Beechwood Cemetery. He died Friday, October 8, at Duke University Medical Center. ^ ■ -He was bom June 2, 1909 in Maxton, a son of the late John F. and Mrs. Cassie J. Locklear. He was employed by the City of Durham for 25 years and later with W.E. King Con.straction Co., from which he retired. Surviving are a son, Elijah Locklear of Durham; four sisters, Ms, Mary Baucom of Broadway, N.C., Ms. Louvina Bilbry of Linden, N.C., Ms. Clara Goins of Fairmont and Ms. Lillian Artis of Buffalo, N.Y.; (hree brothers, Willie Locklear of Norfolk, Va., John C. Burial was in the Williams Family Memorial Gardens, Chatham County. He died Thursday, October '14, at his home in Teaneck, N.J. ' He was bom November 15, 1922 in Chatham County, a son of Mrs. Ethel Atwater Hedgespeth Perry and the late Will Hedgespeth. He was supportive of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church. He was affiliated with the Nation of Islam and held the rank of lieutenant. He served as a' bodyguard to Malcolm X and Minister Louis Farrakhan. He was a veteran of the United States Navy. He was a supportive member of the Williams Family Circle and had attended every annual Wiliiams’ Family "Mother’s Day" reunion. He had been married to the former Ms. Mildred Futrell and Ms. JEvelyn "Corkey" Smith.'f Surviving, in addition to his mother, arc: his wife, Mrs. Olivta W. Burial was in Beechwood Cemetery, Durham. He died Monday, October 11, at Duke University Medical Center. He was bom August 6, 1927 in Durham, a son of the late Benjamin Franklin and Mrs. Mary Thurman Morris. He attended the public schools of Durham and was a graduate of Hillside High School. He was a World War II veteran ofthe United States Navy. He had worked at the Veterans Administration Medical Center and retired from Duke University Medical Center. He was a member of Pleasant Grove United Chwch of Christ, a trastee, usher and member of the Sunday School,^ senior choir, male choras, gospel chorus, missionary society and pastor’s aid. He died Wednesday, September 29, in Stone Mountain, Ga. He was bom, reared and attended school in the Walltown area of Durham. He spent most of life in New York City where he worked as a mechanic for Consolidated Edison Electric Co. He rcured m 1988. He was also a self-employed contractor for over 30 years. He was a member of Big Miller Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Lithonia, Ga. She also graduated froiji Durham Business College. She had -been a health care technician at John Unustcad Hospital for 29 years. She had attended the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
