Spreads Seasonal Joy Alpha Theta Chapter of Eta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. has been busy with activities helping others. • For the Thanksgiving Holiday several members presented food items to the Westglen Group Home residents for their enjoyment. • On Friday December 2, 2016 several members volunteered at the 4 th annual Christmas Gala sponsored by the Durham County Community Living Program. In attendance were residents of all the adult group homes in Durham County. The event was well attended by the community. • The Annual Candlelight/Vesper Services was held at Westglen Group Home with participation from SHAD Club 21 and visiting members from Epsilon Gamma in Central North Carolina. Our esteemed National President, Dr. Lillie Robinson was in attendance as she is a member of the visiting Chapter. Prior to the Candlelight/Vesper Service the members of both Chapters assisted the Westglen residents with trimming their Christmas tree and gifts were given to each resident. • Alpha Theta Chapter will be visiting Westglen again the near future. Alpha Theta Chapter will continue to serve the Durham Community by exhibiting our motto, “Not for ourselves but for others.” Pictured from left to right on the first row: Mses. Young, Noble Okera Adofo, Noble Kevin Atkins, Sr. On January 14, Zafa Temple No. 176, a subordinate body of the Ancient Egyptian Arabic Order Nobles Mystic Shrine (A.E.A.O.N.M.S.) North and South America and its Jurisdictions, Inc, took home several awards, while also adding members to the Desert of North Carolina Divan. PP Victor C. Cooper, Immediate Past Deputy of the Desert of North Carolina, presented the following awards for the 2016 year: • Temple of the Year for the Desert of North Carolina: Zafa Temple No. 176, Durham, • Illustrious Potentate of the Year for the Desert of North Carolina: PP Sammy McCullers • Noble of the Year for the Desert of North Carolina: HPP D. Antoine Lilly At the conclusion of the election for the 2017 Desert officers, Zafa Temple No. 176 added PP Sammy McCullers as the Desert 1st Ceremonial Master, PP Joseph W. Burwell as the Desert Captain of the Guard and HPP D. Antoine Lilly as Desert Auditor. Jury awards $400 to 51,000 people called by Dish Network (AP A federal jury in North Carolina is award ing more than $20 million to 51,000 people on the Do Not Call registry who were contacted by Dish Net work. The Herald-Sun of Dur ham reports a jury decided Jan. 20 to give $400 to each of the people on the regis try called at the end of a five-day trial in the class- action lawsuit. The jury could have de cided to award between $0 and $500. Dish Network sent the newspaper an email saying is disagrees with the ver dict and is considering an appeal. The phone calls were made by a defunct Dish Dealer. A law firm re viewed 1.6 million calls to find the ones that violated the Do Not Call Registry created in 2003. Register To Vote
