??????j Hertford Counr Herald i P PUBLISHED WEEKLY BY VI??? 4 Parker J. BOY PARKER....}. Editor J AS. 8. VINSON Riufer SUBSCBIPTION PRICE: Om Year tl.BO Six Month. 76 Three Months .40 ADVERTISING RATES: Vary reasonable and made known on Jreqoeet. Enteied aa aecond-claas matter Feb ruary 26th, 1910, at the poat office at Ahoakle, N. C., under the Act of March 3rd, 1879. Hertford County's people are to be warmly congratulated on the wonderful showing in the Y. M. C. A. War Fund campaign, report of which is given on page one. While the County Chairman is extending his thanks, oar populace might well add a few words of genuine appreciation of the very effective oiganlzation headed by Mr. Vann. They did a good work. t Prepare your eopntry for the fu ture battles of civilization by buy ing your share of f Christmas Red Cross Seals. Every penny of reve *" nue derived from the sale of these seals is used in the fight agaipst Tuberculosis? The Great White Pla gue. Safeguard the Nation's health and you have struck the very foun dation of conservation. Watch Your Step. A word of caution at this time might help some poor deluded be ing from suffering m catastrophe that is certainly headed his way, provided he doea not take rftock of his bearings and tread lightly over the seas of financialdom. Money is plentiful; and, for a verification of this assertion, your attention is hereby called to the bank state ' merits in this issue. High prices prevail on farm produce and other products, and the producer is reap ing a harvest of gold. Tet, with gold Just about the cheapest object now in the market, do not (rather the idea that "it came easy so must go easy." It will do the latter any way without any encouragemeht by the holder, and it is well for the. person with money to watch his ev ery move; do not become hysterical. Wise economy in all things would be our advice. Interesting Court Calendar. A perusal of the court calendar in this issue of the Herald reveals the fact that Ahoskie again will hold the center of the stage, that has been set for the first Week in January by the calling of# a special , term of Superior Court. The query of the Herald as to what disposition would be made of the Ahoekie Gra ded School suits has been amply answered by jfhe make-up of the calendar, which sets for the first day the trial of all three cases in volving the title to the office of trustee. , It is the hope of the Herald that these matters be settlod quietly and without ado, as we are sure will be the case. Ahoskie has long been r^rtt wit h dissension over these mi nor matters of email consequence. But. lately, the calm waters of ap parent satisfaction with the school have been undisturbed. Order has dethroned chaos: Ahoskie is enjoy <Dg the best year of its fitful career. The Herald offers in advance its congratulations to the principals in the case, for a legal (contest devoid its accustomed rancour. The Paeaident'a Message. President Wilson's address to Congress Tuesday has undoubtedly gone far towards clarifying the real objaeta desired by this Natic* when victory is gained over Germany and her vassals. Just such a dear and comprehensive statamen t of aims helps to obscure any suggestion of duplicity of aims that might be sug gested by peoples at all inimical to the United States. Statesmen of no mean ability had suggested it, and others, as Landsowne of Eng land, had openly demanded such a course. Our President is too big a man not to have snatched this op. portune time to deliver this mes sage to the world. It was expected and came, true to the Wilson form. The Herald is in perfect agree ment with the Daily "News of Greensboro, in its belief that a dear understanding of the objects and purposes of this war will me~i ev erything to the United States and their allies, when they shall meet t<> make terms at the end of the war, when a lasting and honorable peace shall have been established.
