I LOCAL NEWS OF AHOSKIE Mrs. James Sesaoma was a visitor in Norfolk Saturday. Mr. S. M. Applebaum spent Tues day in Norfolk on business. Mr. R. C. Bridger, of Winton, was in town Monday on business. Mr. Grady Askew, of Harrellsville was a visitor in town Monday.. Mr. I. F. Snipes of Menola, was a visitor in town last Saturday. Taylor and family of Harrellsville, were visitors in town Monday. Dr. J. H. Mitchell and Mr. F. G. Taylor spent Monday in Winnot on business. Miss Eva Bazemore, of Aulander, spent Monday the guest of Mrs. Paul E. Dukes. Mr. Johnson of the Coca Cola Co. at Kelford was a business visitor here Tuesday. Mrs. Bingham Copeland and daugh ter, Margaret, spent Saturday in Nor folk, shopping. Mr. Ross Holloman was a brief vis itor in Ahoskie, the guest of parents, Sunday evening. Mr. and Mrs. S. F. Bristow, of Coleram, were guests of Mrs R. L. Phelps Tuesday. Editor James S. Vinson spent a short while Monday afternoon in Win ton on business. Mr. E. R. Conger, of Edenton, spent Monday the guest of his son, Mr. C. G. Conger. Mrs. W. A. Baker is slowly improv ing after a long illness. Her nurse left last Saturday. County Agent H. L. Miller, of Winton, was a business visitor in Ahoskie Wednesday. " Messrs. S. S. Vaughan and J. R. Garrett were in Winton Monday af ternoon on business. Mr. Ross Holloman of Rocky Mount spent Sunday the guest of his father Mr. Robert Holloman. Mr. Clyde Howard ' of Tarboro, spent Sunday the guest of his parents Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Howard. , Miss Mina Holloman, of the school faculty, is no on the road to recovery from an attack of the "flue." Mr. Ernest Hayes, local merchant, is now in Baltimore, for the purpose of purchasing merchandise. Mr. C. H. Chitty, of Murfreesboro, paid a visit to the Herald office Tues day, leaving his subscription. Mr. M. D. Curtis, of Atlanta, Ga., spent Saturday and Sunday the guest of his brother Mr. W. L. Curtis. Miss Dorothy Benton, of Suffolk, spent Saturday and Sunday the guest of her sister Mrs. Howard Basnight. Misses Marie and Audrey Newsome of East Church street, spent Satur day in Norfolk, on a shopping tour. Mr. Stewart Holloman of Norfolk, spent the week-end the guest of rela tives and friends in and around Ahos kie. Miss Bessie Harrell, of the school faculty at Walsonburg, N. C., spent the week-end the guest of relatives near Ahoskie. -Mrs. L. Baxemore, who has been the guest of relatives Ahoskie the past week, returned to her home near Windsor, Sunday. Rev. and Mrs. Bristow, of Cole Tains, were the guests of Mrs. R. L. Phelps on east Church street a few days of this week. Messrs. C. Baxemore, of the Herald force, and Arthur Greene spent Sun day afternoon as the guests of rela tives near Windsor. Ml* Louise Basnight, a student at Greensboro, N. C., spent the week-end ** of her parents, Mr. and Mrs, H. 8. Basnight. Mr. and Mrs. D. R. Baker, of Rich mond, Va., spent a few days this week the guests of their sisters Mes dames Baker and Harrell. Mr. and Mrs, H. L. Baxemore, off Windsor, were in AhoaUe a short while Monday, enroute to Windsor, having spent Sunday in Woodland. Misses Evva Bones and LeHine Brown and Messrs. C. A. Perry and Graham Newsome attended the James Adams show at Colerain Wednesday night. Messrs. / Arthur Greene, Cedrick laary, and Obediah Garrett motored I over to Winton Friday to witness a I basket ball game, Winton vs. Rich Square. Misses Brown and Shields of the local school faculty were among those from Ahoskie who spent Saturday on a shopping tour in Norfolk, return ing Saturday night Messrs. C. A. Perry, E. L. Garrett, R. B. Taylor, G. C. Britton, Claude Dukes and J. S. Vinson attended the James Adams Floating Show at Cole rain uesday evening. ? Messrs. Claude Dukes, G. C. Brit ton, Vanda Jenkins, H. C. Reynolds and L. C. White were among those from our city who took in the show at Colerain Wednesday night The Young Woman's Philathea class will meet Monday .afternoon, April 10th with Mrs. James I. Craw foard at half past three. All mem bers are especially requested to be present. 0 Mr. and Mrs. Dukes Entertain Mr. and Mrs. Paul E. Dukes de lightfully entertained a number of their friends Saturday evening, April 1st, from nine until twelve at the home of Mrs. Dukes' parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. W. Rawles. The guests gathered a few minutes after nine o'clock and were invited in the parlor which was beautifully decorated with green and yellow crepe paper. Con versation was engaged in for the first hour with several selections of piano music by Miss Earle Lawrence, after which a baseball contest was engaged Ifn- Miss Louise Basnight and Mr. James I. Crawford were the winners, the prise being an April fool package. At eleven o'clock a two course luncheon was served consisting of chicken salad and crackers and crackers, blocked ice cream and cake. At 12 o'clock the guests departed voting Mr. and Mrs. Dukes as de lightful hosts. Those present were; Miss Dorothy Benton of Suffolk, Misses Eva Bones, Lurlene Brown, Louis Bas night, Earle Lawrence, Feye Gerock land Lena Moore Rawles. Messrs. E. E. Garrett, C. A. Perry, Claude Dukee, G. C. Britton, L. C. White, Bennie Forbes, Jack Barker, Grahom, Newsome and James Vinson, Mr. and Mrs. James I. Crawford, Mr. and Mrs Howard Basnight, Mr. and Mrs! Parker. 0 AHOSKIE TEAM WINS FIRST GAME OF SEASON The local High School team com posed, of some of the "liveliest stuff" that Ahoskie can produce, when it oomes to baseball, won from Lewistoh in a lively game played on the letter's diamond Wednesday afternoon. The final score was 4 to 2 in Ahoskie's favor. As indicated by the score, neither team loafed on the job, but put out some real stuff, considering the fact that this is the season for spring fever, and early for baseball birds. Thus the second nine, or High School team, opened Ahoskie's baseball season for 1922. It remains for Ahoskie's first nine to begin "sawing wood", and get busy. No reason why we can't lick 'em all; the material is in Ahoskie. U. D. C. MEETS The Ahoskie Chapter of the U. D. C. had their regular meeting Tuesday afternoon, April 4 at the home of Mrs. C. G.
