Overton near Brantleys Grove. Mrs. C. H. Phaup and son Haywood left Sunday for Richmond to attend the Virginia Historical Pageant and visit relatives while in the city. Miss Maude Simons, who has been teaching in Duke, N. C., the past school term passed through town Mon enroute to her home near Colerain. Mr. C. H. Mitchell added a new coat of pjint to the Mitchell Drug Store this week, which is qnite an improvement to his place of business. Miss Janie Parker, of Menola, passed through town Monday after noon en route to Weldon, where ahe will spend several days the guest of fridnds. Mr. and Mrs. J. H. White, of Hob good, have removed to Ahoskie. Mr. White has accepted a position with Mr. D. L. Thomas, a local contractor and builder. Miss Louise Basnight, student at G.'C. W., Greensboro, N. C., returned home Saturday to spend the summer vacation with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. S. Basnight. Misses Earle Lawrence and Lena Moore Rawles, and Messrs. 6. C. Britton, John White, G. L. Newsome, and Rawdon Garrett motored to Windsor Sunday afternoon. Miss Ethel Freeman, who has been teaching at the Liberty-Piedmont In stitute, at Wall burg, during the past session, was the guest of Miss Audrey Newsome, Monday, and Tuesday, en route to her home in Coleraine. Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Brett returned Monday after spending the past week as the guest of Mr. Brett's sister, Mrs. Mattie McCabe in Oriental, N. C. They also attended the Shriners Convention in Kinston while away. Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Curtis and chil dren motored to Franklin, N. C., Sat urday. Mr. Curtis returned Tuesday while Mrs. Curtis and children will spend some time the guest of Rev. and Mrs. C. L. Dowell in that city. Mr. E. White, Jr., a student at Wake Forest College, passed through town Wednesday morning en route to his home in Colerain, where he will spend the summer vacation with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. White, Sr. Mr. S. P. Watson spent Monday in Raleigh. Mr. Watson has accepted a position with the Tobacco Co-Opera tive Association while in that city and will have charge of the McKeel ware house here the coming season for the Co-Operative. Mr. and Mrs. S. M. Applebaum and childran and Mr. 0. W. Hale returned Tuesday after spending the past ten days in Baltimore and other cities. Mr. Applebaum purchased the sum mer goods for the Ahoslcie Depart ment Store while away. ? Mr. J. Mayon Parker, student at Wake Forest College, returned home Wednesday. After spending a few days the guest of his father Mr. J. T.
