Cowan left last Thursday for Norfolk where he underwent an operation at Sarah Leigh Hospital. Mr. Cowan is reported as getting along nicely and will be home again. Miss Estelle Vinson, who has been spending some time as the guest of her uncle Mr. Cola Vinson in North ampton county, returned home Sun day afternoon. Misses Lillian Bradshaw, of Nor folk, Irma Modlin and Sarah Coun cil and Mr. Bryan Alexander, of Suffolk, spent several days this week as the guest of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Alexander. Mr. and Mrs. E. D. Cherry and two children left Sunday for Richmond, Va. Mr. Cherry returned Sunday while Mrs. Cherry and children will remain in that city for an extended visit with relatives and friends. Mr. Grady Askew and Mr. Hollo man, of Harrellsville, spent a short while in town Sunday morning. They met Mr. J. O. Askew, Sr., who had been spending several days in Norfolk and was en route to his home in Har rellsville. Mr. W. M. Jernigan has a curiosity in the way of a twin cantaloupe which he found on his farm near Ahoskie, Monday morning while gathering can toloupes for market. This unusual specimen is on display at the Farmers Atlantic Bank. i Miss Iola Wooten, who has been spending some time as the gueet of Miss Mae Bell Barnkill at Roberson ville, N. C., returned home last Fri day morning. She was accompanied home by Miss Barnhill, who will spend a week with her. Mr. J. P. Wilkins, who bought to bacco on the Ahoskie Tobacco Market last year, spent several days in town last week making arrangements for the coming season which opens Thurs day, August 17th. Mr. Wilkins rep resents the Liggett A Myers Tobacco Co. Ben Sykes, a young man employed by the Army and Navy Sales store, was given a severe drubbing on the streets of Ahoskie about 9 o'clock Saturday night Sykes was returning to the store from supper when he was met at the corner of Railroad street and E. 1. Gerock's store, by R. H. Pricks. It was at this point that the altercation took place. The parties involved were arraigned before Mayor W. L.
