Shaw, Jr. of Winton, ?pent Tuesday in Ahoskie. Miss Lilian Shaw of Winton was a visitor in Ahoskie last Saturday. Mr. W. L. House of Scotland Neck spent last Saturday in Ahoskie. Lee Parker of Durham spent the week-end with his parents in Ahoskie. Mr. T. W. Winborne of Harrells ville was a visitor in Ahoskie Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. M. F. Parker of Pow ellsville were shoppers in this city on Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. I. F. Snipes and chil dren of Menola were visitors in Ahos kie Monday. Mr. and Mrs. George J. Newbern were visitors in Charlotte during the past week-end. Miss Iola Wooten left Wednesday for Raleigh to resume her studies at Peace Institute. Mr. E- J. Gerock spent Monday in Winton, attending the meeting of the road commissioners. Miss Feye Gerock left Wednesday for Greensboro. She has entered Stae College in that city. Mr. and Mrs. C. R. Odom spent Wednesday and Thursday in Norfolk on a shopping expeditiofi. i Mr. and Mrs. C. G. Conger, Miss Feye Geroek and James Vinson spent last Sunday at Williamston. Mr. Robert Baugham of Rich Square was the week-end guest of his sister, Mrs. V. D. Strickland. Miss Helen Askew has gone to Ben son, where she will teach in the high school during the current term. ? Mr. Talmage Baker of Suffolk was the guest of relatives and friends in Ahoskie last Saturday and Sunday. Miss Sallie Barnes spent several days last week in Norfolk. She re turned to her home here Sunday, night Mr. Cyrus W. Bazemore, manager of the Windsor Ledger, visited rela tives in Ahoskie several days this week. Mrs. M. C. Powell and children went to Norfolk Tuesday morning. They will visit relatives there for sev eral days. Miss Edna Askew left Tuesday morning for Raleigh, where she will j enter Meredith College for the 1922 23 session. Mr. 3. Stanley Vinson of Norfolk spent Saturday and Sunday in Ahos kie as the guest of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Vinson. Mr. L. W. Brett, of the Connefcticutt Mutual Life Insurance Company, re turned to Ahoskie last Saturday, after attending a convention of insurance men in New Jersey. Miss Bailey, teacher in the Ahoskie High 8chool, was called to her home last Sunday on account of the death of a friend. Scull of Harrellaville was a business visitor in Ahoskie Thurs day. f Mrs. S. J. Dilday was the guest of her parents near Rich Square last week. Mrs. W. T. Forbes spent the last week-end in Norfolk as the guest of relatives. Alvin Eley, lyric tenor, will sing at the Richard Theater, Ahoskie, next Monday and Tuesday nights. Hr. John Miller, tobacco buyer of Drakes Branch, Va., is now buying tobacco on the Ahoskie market. Mr. Alvin Eley of New York City who is visiting his brother in Winton, was a visitor in this cty Wednesday afternoon. Miss Louise Voiles of Clarkton has accepted a position as stenographer for Attorney R. C. Bridger at his Ahoskie law office. Misses Margaret Copelapd, Mary Newsome left Wednesday for Greens boro to enter the North Carolina State College for Women. Mr. Marshall Lassiter, who hal been working with the Atlantic Coast Line at South Rocky Mount, is spending this week in Ahoskie with his family. Mr. Raymond Barnes of Ports mouth was a visitor in Ahoskie Thurs day moming. Mr. Barnes is em ployed by the Southern ailway as de spatches Mr. and Mra. J. Bailey Barnes and two children spent last Saturday and Sunday with the former's sister, Mrs. L. Ross in Burkeville. They made the trip by automobile. Among those from Ahoskie who motored over to Williamston last Sun day were Mr. and Mrs. S. J. Boyette, M. O. Gerock, J. O. Sessoms, OUie Pullen and Bob Mitchell. s Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Cooke, who have been the guests of Mr and Mrs. J. T. Parker, left last Friday for Rich Square. They were accompanied by Messrs. J. T. and J. Roy Parker. - - . Hayes and Mr. and Mrs. H. W. Stokes have returned from an automobile trip to Baltimore. Messrs. Hayes and Stokes purchased their fall and winter goods while in Baltimore. Mas Evva Bones of Pulaski Va. is spending a few days in Ahoskie with friends. Miss Bones was a member of the high school faculty here last year. She will teach in the Moore head City High School this term. A feature program has been ar ranged for next Monday and Tuesday nights at the Richard Theater. Alvin Eley, noted lyric tenor of New York City, will supplement the regular movie picture program with several vocal selections. TOBACCO CONTINUES TO POUR ON LOCAL MARKET Only Few Mere Sale* Nece*?ary To Bring Total To The Million Pound Mark If tobacco continues to fill the auc tion warehouses of Ahoskie as it has during the last three weeks this will be perhaps the largest season during the life of the market. Both houses are running heavy sales every day and total sales are showing an increase each week. The half a million pound mark was Jassed last week, and with the large mount that has been sold here this week only a few more sales will be needed to bring it up to the million pound mark. On Tuesday of this week approximately 126,000 pounds were sold at the two warehouses. The Co-Operative Association warehouse is taking care Of the tobacco belong ing to its members. Prices have continued to.advance as the better grades are marketed. Farmers seem to be well satisfied with their sales; and, although the crop > is light, a normal return is expected from the 1922 tobacco. Subscribe to the HERALD?11.60. REV. Reverend Isenhower will spend th< next several weeks in evan gelical work throug this association. WINDLE-JESSUP Miss Beulah Jessup of George, daughter of Mrs. Ella G. Jessup, was married to Mr. Leo Harry WindJe of Ohio, at Rich Square, Wednesday, September ISth. Mrs. Windle formerly worked in Ahoskie, having been stenographer for Barnes-Sawyer Grocery Co. Mr. and Mrs. Windle will make home at Salem, Ohio, after Septem ber 23rd. CHRISTIAN HARBOR NEWS (Last Week's Letter) Mrs. J. H. Evans has returned home after spending some time with her son in Rocky Mount. Mr Luther Newsome and Mr. Clar ence Joyner went to Ocean View to spend the week-end. * Master Carlton Bylthe returned to his home last week in Norfolk. Mrs. J. J. Downing visited Mrs. N. S. Hoggard recently. Mr J. W. Lassiter held a singing class at Christian Harbor last week. All were well pleased with his singing and we feel very much benefited by his teaching. Mr. John W. Holloman spent Sun day in Norfolk with his daughter who is under treatment at St. Vincent's Hopsital. ' Mrs. I. M. Taylor ahd daughter Mrs. Susan Parker went to Norfolk | Saturday to see Miss Lillie Holloman. Mr. Wendell Forehand and Miss | Johnnie were guests of Miss Maggie Holloman last Friday. , Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Holloman visi ted Mr. and Mrs. M. V. Wilson near Brantleys Grove last Sunday. There will be revival services at Christian Harbor next week. Mr. Henry Phelps was in our com munity last week. We are glad to note that Miss Lil lie Holloman is getting on nicely. Her father returned home Sunday night and says that her room looks almost like a flower garden, so many of her friends and relatives have sent flow ers to her. We hope for her, a speedy recovery.
