Coley were visitors in Cofteld last Sunday after noon. Mr. I. Finley Snipes of Menolawas a business visitor to Ahoskie on last Saturday. Mr. C. H. Phaup is on an extended business trip to the tobacco markets of Tennessee. Messrs. C. A. Perry and H. S. Bas night were business visitors to Suf folk Tuesday. , Among the business visitors in Ahoskie last Friday was Mr. J. L. Snipes of Menola. Messrs. W. P. Shaw and L. V. Owens of Winton spent Tuesday in Ahoskie orTbuainess. Mr. and Mrs. F. D. Flythe and family were the guests of relatives in Kelford last Sunday. Mr. J. M. Phelps of Colerain vis ited friends and relatives in ^.hoslde last Sunday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. F. F. L. Howard were the guests of relatives near Murfrees boro last Sunday afternoon. Mr. J. M. Eley, former county commissioner, spent Monday in Ahos kie on a business mission. -Mr. W. B. Forbes and Miss Ethel Futrell were the guests of the tat ter's sister in Jackson last Sunday. Messrs. Eric Garrett and Talmage Baker spent several days this week in Elisabeth City on a business mis sion. Miss Janie Parker of Menola was in Ahoskle last Friday, enroute to Rocky Mount to visit friends and rel atives. Mr. Roberta Jernigan was a visi tor in Suffolk last Sunday. He was accompanied by Mr. B. Scull of Har rellsville. Mrs. J. G. Baby of.Tarboro came last Monday to attend the funeral and burial of Mrs. S. Sharp, Sr., at Harrellsville. Mr. Bryan Alexander of Suffolk spent last Sunday in A hoe Ids as the guest of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Alexander. Mrs. C. C. Sessoms and son, C. C. Sessoms, Jr., and Mrs. J. C. Sessoms spent last Sunday with relatives at Rich Square. - ^ ? Among the visitors from Win ton in Ahoskie ast Sunday were Messrs. D. R. McGlohon, Thornton Northcott, -J. H. Lee and Tom Condon. Rev. M. F. Hodges of Aulander spent last Friday in Ahoskie. Rev erend Hodges was formerly pastor of the local Methodist church. Mr. W. .P. Sumner of Roberson ville spent a few days of this week in Ahoskie on business. Mr. Sumner is now a traveling salesman. Mr. F. G. Hines of Murfreesboro, county road superintendent, spent some time in Ahoskie last Saturday, attending to business matters. Mr. and Mrs. H. 0. Boulter have moved to Ahoskie from route S. Mr. Boulter will soon announce the open ing of a new business enterprise. Mr. and Mrs. J. Stanley Leary and little Joe Copeland spent Sunday in Windsor as the guests If Mrs. Leary*s parents, hfr. and Mrs' H. P. Sewell. Among those from Harrellsville who spent souk time here last Sunday were Messrs. B. Scull, L. T. Hollo man, M. R. Taylor and Kelly Cotten. Miss Thelma Jewell and Mr. Hugh Harrell were guests of the parents of Mr. Harrell in Wbaleyville, Virginia, last Sunday. They made the trip by automobile. Mr. L. C. White, who has been working in Florida for some time, ar rived in Ahoskie last week, and will spend some time with hie mother, Mrs. Raney White. * Mr. Roger Johnson, Mrs. W. R. Johnson, Miss Helen Johnson, and Messrs. Jas. I. Crawford, G. C. Brit ton and Eddie Perry were visitors in Martin county last Sunday afternoon. Miss. Vivian Hyatt spent last Fri day and Saturday in Norfolk. While there she attended the wedding of her brother, Joe Hyatt to Miss Thel ma Barnes of Ballentine Place, Nor folk. Mr. and Mr*. Hampton Pop* of EnAeld spent several days last wselt in Ahoakie with the letter's father, Mr. M. D. Gatling. Mr. and Mrs. Pope were recently married in Nor folk, Virginia. , Attorney L. C. Williams retained to Ahoakie Monday after attending the 138th annual meeting of the Grand Lodge of Masons of North Carolina, and spending several-day* at his old home in Alamance County. Mr. E. R. Conger of Edenton i* spending some time in Ahoakie with his son, Mr. Charles G. Conger. He is here to assist in superintending the erection of a new crude oil engine at the Ahoakie lee and Coal Company's plant k Miss Alice Morris of Rocky Mount was in Ahoskie Thursday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. V. D. Strickland and little son spent the week-end in Zeb I ulon with the former's father who is ill. Mr. Strickland returned to Ahoe kie Monday. Mrs. Strickland and son went from Zebulan to Rich Square to spend the week with their mother. PAINTED DEPOT A new coat of dull gray paint has boon added to the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad, depot here. A DAUGHTER IS BORN Born to Mr. and Mrs. E. T. A CORRECTION In the large circulars advertising the Big 10-Day Sale of the Ahoskie Department Store, Palm Olive Tal cum Powder is advertised at 10 cents per box. This should read 18 cents per box, as the goods in question coat the dealers 17 cents. The advertise ment in this issue has been corrected to read 18 cents, although the circu lars sent out showed it to be 10 cents. Mesdames Perry and Henry went to Ahoakie last Tnesday. Mrs. D. R. Britton went to Winton last Tuesday to spend several days. Rev. Lineberry, Mesdames Line berry, Henry, and White attended the Woman's Missionary meeting at Siloam Church last Wednesday. Miss Minor, the County Supervisor, was in town last Wednesday and visi ted the school. Mr. N. O. Phelps returned from Raleigh last Wednesday. Mr.^D. R. Britton went to Winton last Thursday. Mr. J. H. Allen made a business trip to Ahoskie last Friday. Mr. L. H. White returned from Raleigh Friday where he attended a Masonic meeting. Mr. C. Morris went to Edenton last Friday and spent the night. Rev. and Mrs. Lineberry enter tained the B. Y. P. U. at their home last Friday evening. Refreshments were served and oontests enjoyed. Mr. Joseph Cherry of Windsor was in town last Saturday. Mr. Manly Pierce of Chowan County was a visitor in town last Saturday. Miss Margie Evans spent the week end with her sister, Mrs. H. E. Wil son. Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Beasley and Mrs. Addie Williams went to Har rellsville last Sunday. Rev. Lineberry filled his regular appointment here Saturday and Sun day giving us some good sermons. Mr. and Mrs. N. G. Phelps were visitors in Ahoelde last Sunday after noon. The roads and fine weather on last Sunday were taken advantage of by many visitors who were in town that day. Mr. J. W. Barnes visited relatives in Ahoskie last Sunday. Messrs. M. R. Montague and C- A. Northcott went to Norfolk last Mon day. I Local Man Weds A Norfolk Lady Joseph James Hyatt Married to Miss Edith Thelma Barnes Last Saturday . ' The following account of the mar rige of Mr. Joseph J. Hyatt, son of Mra. Mattie Hyatt of route 4, ap peared in the Norfolk Virginian Pilot last Sunday. Mrs. Hyatt was hostess at a supper served for the newly-weda last Saturday evening, at her home near town. Several invited guests were present. Mr. and Mrs. Hyatt came here on the 8 o'clock train that night. HYATT?BARNES The marriage of Miss Edith Thel ma Barnes, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Barnes, of Ballentine Place, and Mr. Joseph James Hyatt, son of Mrs. Hyatt, and the late Mr. J. H. Hyatt, of Ahoslde, N. C., took place yester day afternoon at 4:80 o'clock at the Fairmoun t Park Baptist Church, with the pastor, Rev. David Peebles, officiating. The church was deco rated with palms and potted plants and the marriage took place under an arch of trailing vines and white flowers. The wedding march was played by Miss Ethel Mae Forbes, and just before the ceremony Miss Elva Summers sang, "0 Promise Me." The bride, who was given in mar riage by her father, wore a trav eling suit of dark blue poiret twill with a hat of Copenhagen blue and her flowers were a corsage bouquet of Madame Butterfly roes. Miss Mabel Barnes was the maid of honor. She wore a gown of cinnamon-col ored canton crepe with a hat to match and carried an arm bouquet Madame Butterfly roes. The bride groom had as his best man Mr. Hen ry Hyatt, of Ahoskie, N. C., The ushers were: Messrs. J. R. Barnes, Jr., and W- R- Barnes, brothers of the bride. Later in the evening Mr. Hyatt and his bride left for Ahoskie, N. C., where they will in future reside. GIVES RECEPTION Messrs. J. R. Barnes, Jr., and W. R. Barnes entertained Friday even ing at their residence in Ballentine Place at a reception given in honor of their sister, Miss Edith Thelma Barnes, whose marriage to Mr. Jos eph James Hyatt, of Ahoslde, N. C., took place yesterday afternoon at the Fairmont Park Baptist Church. The room# were prettily decorated with ent flowers and the hosts were assisted in receiving by the bride and bridegroom-elect, Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Barnes, Sr., parents of the bride, and Misses Mabel, Lily and Laura Barnes and Mrs. J. R. Barnes, Jr. Among those present were Mrs. Harry Barnes, Mrs. W. H. Barnes, Mr. and Mrs. L. M. Hollowell, Mrs. L. W. Berry, Mrs. Eicher, Mrs. S. A.
