Five bids were opened and considered at the sessiop, none of which was accepted. The commis sioners believe it is too late in the Came to let the roads on contract, and believe with economical administra tion more can be realised in handling the* road construction program them selves. The meeting last Friday was purely an executive one, all outsiders being excluded while the bids were opened and considered. Four bids were al ready on the table at the time the members gathered for the meeting, and a telegram lay upon the table telling of another bid coming by half past three o'clock that afternoon. The terms of the bids, and prices have not been made public by the commission ers. With the refusal of all proposed contracts, the road building forces will work under the direct supervis ion of the commissioner in each town ship. The road machine, drags, scoops, wagons, mules, and all other equipment belonging to the county has been apportioned equally be tween the townships, and each is an entirely separate unit in road build ing. . At present, the Ahoskie township force is working on the Ahoskie-Pow ellsville road. HARRELLSVILLE NEWS Mr. J. 0- Askew, Sr., spent Wed nesday and Thursday in Norfolk. Mr. L.. T.
