Mr. and Mrs. J. Roy Parker were
the guests of relatives in Jackson last
Sunday. They were accompanied to
Ahoslde by Miss Louise Lassiter, who
will spend seme time bene as their
guest.
Mr. and Mrs. Herman Getting of
Portsmouth, Va., were the fueets of
Mr. and Mrs. M. D. Getting last
week-end. Mrs. Getting was before
her marriage Miss- Hilda Bailey,
teacher in the local school daring the
1922-2* session.
Mr. and Mrs. Pete Barrett of Wil
son spent last Friday night in Aboe
kle as the guests of relatives and
friends. They left here Saturday for
Bertie county, where they are spend
ing this week with friends and rela
tives. Mr. Barrett is owner of one of
Wilson's most modern printing plants.

K. T. Raynor, superintendent of
the Ahoslde Graded School, will leave
this week for Chapel Hill, where he
will enter the final term of the North
Carolina University Summer School.

CROPS ARE GROWING
Chances are now"that the yield of
all crops in this vicinity and adjoin
ing counties will be larger than any
harvest in recent years. Cotton, of
which there is a large acreage, is this
week showing signs of big yields, say
farmers. Tobacco curing has Mao
begun, and the quantity and quality
it above the average.

TOBACCO FARMERS WILL
RECEIVE BIG WELCOME
Ahoskie will not content itself
with pennant advertising of the
local tobacco market From
funds donated by Ahoskie busi
ness houses for boosting tie to
bacco market, the chamber of
commerce director*-on Tuesday
night placed an order for 1,000
neat oval lapel buttons with ap
propriate wording, these .to be
distributed to farmers who bring
' their tobacco bare for sale. The
buttons will be here in ample
time for the opening of the mar
ket, which is set fbr August 23.
Then, there are still* other
methods the business interests of
Ahoskie will use for cresting in
terest iu the market, which {??

who come here on opening day,
and a big barbecue to be given
about the middle of September,
the exact date to be determined,
