lF The Courier will be under oh- ligations if thoe indebted for nub scription and advertising will square their accounts on or before Dec. 31st, 1884. Let us begin the New Year anew cash in advance.gj Gov. elect Scales will resign Jus seat in Congress about Xmas. Governor elect Scales has appointed C. II. Armfield, Esq., of Statesviile bis private Secretary. m m The prophets who predicted in ad vance Scales' nomination and majority and Cleveland's nomination and elec tion are still entitled to the floor. Wise fellers ! The Electoral College system of electing a President and VicePresi dent should be abolished. It in wrong and dangerous. It is surprising that it has never been changed. t The legislator who can devise a better plan for keeping up our Public Roads has a future. The question of working our Public Roads is one that is growing into importance and must sooner or later command the attention of our Legislators. We must have better roads. The Electoral College of this State met at Raleigh, Wednesday of last week. Col. John N. Staples of Greens, boro was made President and Messrs. Rowland and Gilliam secretaries. The electoral votes of this State were cast for Cleveland and Hendricks. B. II. Bunn was elected messenger to convey the result to Washington. A telegram of congratulation signed by President Staples was sent to Presi dent elect Cleveland and Vice Presi dent-elect Hendricks. The new Board of Commissioners took the oath of office before Clerk Bradshaw last week and organized by re electing Dr. Bulla chairman. The county officers filed their Annual Re ports and renewed their bonds. The Constables elect also filed their bonds. Sheriff Moffitt made his settlement for the State Taxes for tho year '84 un. tier schedule B and C. An election on the Stock Jaw question for Con cord Township was ordered to be held nt Widow llorney's Jan. 8tb, 1885. Owing to tbe space consumed by the Ancuai Exhibit the Courier is unable to give the proceedings of the Board in detail. THE JL C. M. E. CONFERENCE.
