C Cox, fonneily of Ran dolph couuty, but for several years a student at J'.lou college, is princi pal of the public schools of James town. Rev S B Turrentine, presiding elder of the Greensboro district of the SI E church was here ou Sunday and preached two able sermons. F L Emery, formerly superinlcn deut of the Worth Mftf Co at Worth ille, but for a number of yen superintendent of the Udell Mills at Concord, has resigned. Burned. ; Program of Meeting of the Teachers As- The furniture plant of the A!-' sociullon January 21st, 1905. 10:30 A. M. Opening exercises. berta Chair Works at Raiuseur was destroyed by lire Monday night about 7 o'clock. The entire plant, which was one of the best in this pari of (he State for the manufac ture of medium grade furniture and chairs, was destroyed The lire originated in the ni-ihi building and is supposed to have been caused by a hot box el one of the shaftings, though the origin is not definiiely known. Iiy heroic efforts on the pa it of the citizens of the towu the huge warehouse, in which was stoied finished furniture, was saved. The loss is estimated at $15,000 I which is only partially covered by insurance. We are not informed us to whether the factory will be built. $30,000 Fire at Greensboro. (ieensboro. January 9. Certainly Randolph county has reason to be proud of the recogni tion given our three members of the General Assembly. No county in the State has so many important committee assignments. It is hard to tell how much real good is being done at those places of learning until we visit them aud spend a liltle time in order to see the good work goii.g on.
