In the community there are merchants, manufacturers and farmers, all of whom have soflfte property-. The bank helps these people in Various ways. , , ,. , , , . , -r At certain seasons of the year the merchant may ,fm a large number of 'people owifig him, and his stock of goods m need of re plenishing. Instead of Crowding his customers to fay, he accepts their note for sity or ninety days, takes these to the bank and guarantees their payment when due by endorsing -irnem (writing his name across the oack) and asks the bank to lend hirh the .money that he needs for the purchase of the new goocte. The bank having the mbney that depositors have left for safe keeping until they need it lends the merchant the money he requires charging him interest for its use. The farmer is helped by the. bajik in .the same way. In the spring he may need money to buy seeds or farming implements so he goes to the bank with his notes .'as'seqJrt'vy and gets the money needed for carrying on his business of farming. By the tiwre his notes fall due he has harvested the 'crops and having sold a portion of same is ready to pay his notes, having, if prices are good made the in terest on the money borrowed. and Vhandsome profit besides. At other seasons the manufacturer is in a similar condition to the merchant. He needs to purchase raw material !from which to make the manufactured product, and also money to pay the wages of his employes, so the manufacturer goes to the . bank and like the merchant giving the bank security borrows the needed funds for Carrying on his business. By these means the -bank helps every work ingman in the community, it puts money into circulation and makes it possible for labor to earn What it should. If it were not for the bank the manufacturer would be compelled to hire fewer men, being able to employ only such as &e had tnotiey for the payment of their wages. ttcrchants,"and ftdw the banks mty 'serve them For derivation of any kind call on or address The Wachovia Loan and Trust Company, Tio.
