Mr. Stuart Write Urging the Endorse ment of Mr. Hammond. To the Democrats of Randolph Co.: Shall we turn down a faithful public official at the end of his first term clean and honest public servant? Is that fair; is it democratic; was it ever done before in the history of our county? Will you break precedents now? I am for the reuomination and endorsement of W. C. Hammond for the Clerk of the Superior Couit. I am opposed to one man's hold ing office too long, I believe in rota tion in office, but I do not believe iu turning a good official, a good man, and a good Democrat out at the end of his first term, without any reason whatever, except that some one else wants the office. I have taken pains somewhat to enquire as to the kind of public offi cial Mr. Hammoud is, and am fully convinced that he has made one of the best public officials this county has ever had. Those who are iu a positiou to know speak in the highest terms of him, both personally aud as a pub lic official. Judge Ferguson stated last week from ne bench to the grand jury, when they made their report, com- mending the manner in which Mr. Hammond conducted his office "that there w as not a better Clerk in the State than Mr. Hammond." Judge Ferguson is said to be a very careful and accurate Judge and examines each entry every ttey in the minutes of the court. Other judges I learu havecommeuded Mr. Hammond for his accuracy and faithfulness aud especially for the care in which he invests aud man ages the pubhc f uuds. Mr. Hammouu should in my opinion be endorsed for a second term for the following reasons: First. He is a good officer aud a good man. Second. He attends to the busi ness of the office and gives it his best individual attention. He is always found in, his office attending to the duties of the office. Third. He has no favorites and treats all alike; the poorest niau who goes into his office gets the same attention that the wealthy man gets. Last but not least he is a good Democrat aud hag grown bo steadily in public favor, that in my opinion he can get more votes than any one we can run for Clerk. The Democratic plan of organiza tion wisely provides that ary one in the primaries may demand that a vote be taken on any and all aspi rants for office, and I suggest that the people attend the primaries and vote for Mr. Hammond and see that delegates who are not unfriendly to him are sent to the county conven tion. Let us have no playing politics, but let the people say in the prima ries who they want for the various cjuuty offices. Don't let the poli ticians run the convention, but let the people go to the primaries and vote their sentiments and all will be well. Yours truly, C. E.Stuart, Franklinville, N. C. July 24th, 190G.
