Nev.'-Jersey.—Tlie rccenl eleciions in
Jiis slate for members of Congress and
of the Stale Legislature, have terminated
in the complete triumph of the friends of
the Administration. The stren^-th of
parlies was fairly put to the test—there
•was no compromise—each parly went for
the wholej all doubt is therefore removed
as to the senliments of a large majority
of the people of New-Jersey. This state
V’ill support the Administration; and her
representation in the next Contjress will
Le unanimous in its favor. Whai will the
opposition say to this unequivocal expres-
fcion of the “voice of the peopler” It
vill not, we suspect, come like music up
on their ears.
Mnrijland. The Congressional and
Stale Kleclions ni this state, have like-
>vise termiualed in favor of the Adminis-
Iraiion.
The North-Carolina Journal, speaking
of the eleciions in Deluwaix*, says:—“The
Federalists have a majority of four in the
Legislature; and as in ihc next session
of that body, two Senators of llie United
Stales are to bt: chosen, w'c may fturUj
jmsionc, ['mark that 11 ihai the Senators
chosen will be anti (itbninistration men.”
The editor of the Journal is a federalist
and an anti-administration man; “we
rnay I'airly presume,” thcrefoi'c, he ktiows
something of the ser.limenls of his parly.
A’et we are continually told that Mr. Ad
ams is the candidate of the federal parly,
■while those who wish to displace him arc
the real republicans, who alone can save
the country. I'he truth is, Mr. Adams
is as good a republican as any of his re-
vilers, and a better one than most ol
them; but lu- is the slave no parly. He
is the President of the country, rather
than of a party; and seeks the welfare of
the whole confederacy, by an entire devo
tion to the interests of the various mem
bers which compose it.
Fr«fnch papers received in this country,
contain the particulars of the burning of
a Jew in Spain, by the brotherhood of the
llohj Inquisition. The unfortunate victim
^vas clad in a smock frock, on whicii were
painted various devils ; and on his head
‘lie wore a paste-board cup, decorated with
llames of fire. He was escorted by two
J)ominican friars; and these unfeeling
^ vretrhes complimented him on the occa-
" '*^sion of his being about to be hurncd for
vjthe__5alvation of his soul; and to cap the
^ climax of their hypocrisy and cruelly,
they embraced himl The poor Israelite
* was then dragged and tied down, the
torch was applied, and his torturers siir-
l: I'ounded the pile singing hymns to drown
his cries! Such are the fruits of the in-
' terference of the Holy Alliance to ]7Ut
. down liberal institutions in Spain, and to
lYiaintain the divine right of I’erdinund
to lyrandize over that w retched and bigot
ed country, .

lo sum up the whole as briefly as pos
sible, candor compels me to say, that the

of misfortune rather than any thing else.
The people of Virginia will no doubt a-

to be so peculiarly attached.

Neu>Jcrsey Election.—From all we can
gather from the i)a[)ers, it apjiears cer
tain, that the Adniinistrati(jn Congres
sional ticket has prevailed in Xew-Jcrsey
by b’etw'ecn two and thr'e thousand ma
jority. A letter from Newark received
iji New-York says,—“I hasten lo inform
you of the result ^of the election in this
state as far as infornration has been re
ceived Tn this count) (l^ssex) the ad-
minisfation ticket has a majority of
1300—Middlesex county, adjoining ihis,

[Middlesex, at the Jasl Presidential elec-
tioiu gave a majority of thirty lor Jack

son county, has given our ticket 500 ma
jority—liergen, in all proba!)ilily, will
give a small majority for Jackson. Tin I'e

expect at least 3000 majority.”
A letter from 'rrenton stales, that
“there is ln'o thnnsand majority for the
Allministration 'l'ick»': for C(j?igiess ; and
that in the State Legislature there wili
be a majority for the Administration ul
two in Ihe Senatr, and in ihe Assembl).
Thus are the worst fears ol the Jackson-
ians, and the biigiitest hopes of the
friends of the Adnunistralion realized.—
It was the Democratic Coutilies of New-
Jersey, as we learn, that gave majorities
for Mr. Adams, while the ft-di-ral coiin-
lics gave majoriiies fo! (ien. Jackson.”

tled in this Slate. The Sanipsot) ct
Oppositio?! has been sliorn of his locks,
und has become weak as other mrv.
'I’he election for members of Congres-
has resulted in the complete triumph of
the w hole of the administration ticket iti
New-Jersey, by a majority of two or three
thousand votes; and »n both branches of
the Legislature di'f'idvd majorities in fa
vor of the administration. The returns
are not complete from all the counties,
but the general result is, beyond all Cfjii-
troversy, correC. The opposition lea
ders talk strongly of renewing the coti-
lest, and threaten wh'ai they will do two
years hence in the election forelectors,
if the.-people irill only permit them. 13ut
after iheir late unsuccessful eifort, it is
hardly probable they will exi)erience a
speedy iesurrection of strength, unless
the overwhelming majority now obtained
shall lull us inlo apathy and repose. New-
Jersey will hai'dly now he ranked among
the Opposition States.
Senate in Maryland.—We have seen it
staled in several jiapers out of the State,
“lhatr/erf« members of the Maryhind
“Senate out of jifleen are friendly to (len.

kind of slatement has been made in rehi
tion loour recent (dection for members of
Cotigress, which is known in the state to
have H'riuinated in the election of a nia-
joriiy decidedly friendly lo the Admitiis-

we will thank any one to name those
mcmi)crs who are “friendly to (leufial

We have received information from all
the conntic‘3 touching the late elections—
Most of the oflicial returns have been
sent into the I'xecutive Department. For
the information and satisfaction of our
friends and readers, we have the pleasure
lo stale that we entertain no doubt now
but what the ensuing Legislature will
be composed of a majority of rej>iibli-
cans, good and ti ue to ihe interest of the
state. Fi om the best information in our
possession, it seems that there will be a
decided majoiriy both in the Senate and
House of liepresenialives, w ho will sup
port the administration of the slate, up
on the subject of the Old Treaty. We
trust and believe that our friends abroal,
will now be convinced that the peo[)le of
(ieorgia do not apprehend such serious
alarm about the course pursued by our
J^xccutive, as some have manifested. The
survey of the territory ceded by the Old
'I'reaty w ill doubth'ss proceed peaceably,
and occupation follow in pursuance ihere-
ol'.
In all probability the late District Law
will be brought before the Legislature up
on a i>roposillon to re|jeal it. It is now cer
tain that this system has not answered
the expectations of its advocates, for the
party that cnacted it has failed of suc
cess in five out of seven Districts, and
we arer not sure but they will fail in six.
It is even unpojiular with some of the
most intelligent among that parly.
