THE WESTERN DEMOCRAT, CHARLOTTE, ,H . ,C: ; -I - 5 i' "" f i'-i- hi i Hi 0 Til For the Western Democrat. SHALL WE RECOGNIZE EARTHLY FRIENDS IN HEAVEN? Is it wrong t wish to see Item,- , -Who were 'dear to us on earth; Who have goneo Heavenly mansions , Who surround a brighter hearth? Is it wrong to rrouro their absence, From the parted household band; Should we check the &Igh of sadness, Though thej're in a brighter land? Is it wrong to Lope to meet them Yet upon that I blessed 'shore,' .And with shouts of joy to greet them When this toil of life is o'er? Is it wrong to thiol them deatcr Thao the Djany of the blest, Who to us on earth were strangers. Must we love them like the rest? We've a mother up in Heaven, And oh ! tell me if ye will, Will that inotter know her children, Will she recollect them still '! Can she look down from those windows, On this dark and distant shore; Will she know when we are coming, Will she meet us at the door? And jhou loved one, who did'st leave us, Iu the morning of tby Llooru ; Dearest brother shall we meet thee, When we go beyond the tomb? .Shall we sec thy lovely features, Shall we hear thy pleasant voice, Sounding o'er our spirit's heart strings Like the melody of birds? Ah ! 'tis true the soul must suffer, And be bound with anguish down, Ere 'tis fitted lor its dwelling, lire 'tis ready for its crown. But oh ! Jesus! blessed Jes-us!
