1, harlqiic?, 3X&. A Lion Tamer attacked by a Lioness. Many of our readers doubtless recollect II err Lciigcl, or, as he was called, "tlie Lion King," who exhibited in our city in connection with Dan Castello's Circus on several occasions. 11 id daring and the ferocity of the lions always ren dered his performances peculiarly thrilling and exciting. Fears were entertained that some day he .would seriously suffer from his fool-hardiness. AVe publish below an account of an acci dent i which recently occurred to him, and in which to use a popular slang phrase, he came very near '-going up :" "Last night while 31 r Lengel was in the cage of the lion and lioness, and alter he had about ended his performances in the cage, the lionesss suddenly seized him by the right leg a.s she was passing mm, tiiicw Jam, aim made at lum again, but was driven off by two men armed with heavy iron bars, steel pointed and shrap, and the lion tamer made his escape from the cage. The wound in the leg is soverc. One of the large tusks of the beast was driven deep into the fleshy part below the knee. The wound was dressed 'by Br Collins, and the unfortunate man carried to the steamer Coosa. Jr Collins thinks Len gel .will be unable to perform again for some weeks. The excitement among the spectators near the cage was intense, but fortunately the larger por tion. seated on the other side were not aware of the accident. Tho employees of the show took the affair very coolly, as something tint was not unusual. Vv'c were told that the lioness has been ugly for some weeks; hence the precaution of having the men near with the heavy iron bars, held like a soldier holds his inuke.tat the charge, ready for any emergency. Air Lengel says he lias been in the bur-inc.-s for sixteen years, and such an accident never happened to him before, lie attributes the accident to the fact that he had not the use of his riiilit hand owing to a sore thumb. Last evening I saw an Angel His great white pinions wave, And he passed through a quiet churchyard, And stopped at an infant's grave. And taking a ray of sunshine Out of his pinions bright. He laid it among the violets. And it formed a cross of light. This morn'mgl went to the churchyard, All through the soft Spring air, The angel had flown to Heaven, 13 ut the sunshine still was there. m How a Hoa Sweats. Xot like a horse or a man, but through his forelegs. There is a spot on each leg, just below the knee, in the form of a sieve; through this the sweat passes off, and it is necessary that this be kept open. If it gets closed, as is sometimes the case, the hog will get sick; he will appear stiff and cramped, and unless he gets relief it will go hard with him. To cure him, simply open the pores. This is done by rubbing the spot with a corn cob and washing with warm water. Rural World. FARMING LANDS. I have about 7 GO Acres of Land which I will lease for a term of years.
