A Dead Man before an Arkansas Court-' An Arkansas correspondent of the New Or leans Picayune tells the following story of the rigid manner in which justice is meted out to men in that region : Some years ago a man without family or rela tions lired in a county in this State, and was possessed of an estate worth ? 5.000. He went to New Orleans, and was absent for years with out being heard from. The probate judjre granted administration upon his estate; wound it up and discharged the administrator. The man at length returned, he had been to Mexico. He applied to the judge for his property, when in open court the following dialogue took place : Dead man If your Ilonor please, I want my effects returned to me, as you see I am cot dead The Court I know; that is, I, as a man kaow that you are alive and in court; but as a courtI know that you are dead; for the records of the court say so, and agaiust their verity there is no averment. So says Lord Coke aud a good many other books I never read. Dead man 13ut I want my property, and it's no matter to me whether your record lies or not. I am alive, have you transferred my property, and to deprive me of it without my consent is without the law. The Court If you insinuate that the Court lies the Court will send you to jail. Dead man Send a dead man to jail. The Court Mr Sheriff, take thcapparition out. Sheriff Be thou ghost or goblin damned. I'll speak to thec. Come on; let's go take something to drink. The Judge stuck to it that, so far as his court was concerned, he was dead, and he should stay dead. The poor fellow went into chancery and spent all he made in Mexico. US? It is said that during the late famine in Algeria five hundred thousand Arabs -perished. The poor wretches lived upon garbage of all sorts, and finally many of them were reduced to feeding upon each other. We dare say that bad season had much to do with this terrible state of things; but we doubt not that if the " evil could be traced to its foundation, it would be found that the measures incident to French domination had something to do with it; for where one country interferes in any way with the productive industry of another, distress and starvation are the infallible consequences, as wit ness the results of Knglish rule in Ireland and Jndia. For all diseases arising from dis orders of tke liver, I believe they arc the best medi cine offered to the public." Rev. Jobs W. Totter, Snow IIill,X C, (January 5th, 16C3.) says: "For twelve years I was a great sufferer. My liver was diseased. I lost my and strength, and my skin seemed changed ia color by the bile with which my pysteiu was over charged." I became subject tc- frequent and violtut attacks of billions cholic, every attack leaving me weaker than its predecessor. The physicians had been able to patch me up a little, but my health was in a deplorable state. I had taken patent medicines until I was tired of them. Without energy or cwn fort, Lwas barely able fo go about a little. At length I yielded ttf the earned persuasion of a fHehd and commenced taking the HEPATIC PILLS, with no confidence in them. They acted like a charm on me. From that hour I havelmproved. I have persevered in their use, until dow, by Cod's blessing, 1 am well and hearty. I hd a negro man, who, as I believe, was saved from death by a dose of these Pills. My Doctor's bill .was annually from $100 to $100, but I have bad no use for a physician since.
