Mich.. January 29.- The residents of this city were greatly excited last nitdit over tue sensation al i suicide of P. Cox, a mechanic about thirtv vears old. He was a cousin of Charles Clowes, who killed himself and mistress in a Chicago bacrnio a week aeo. Clowe's remains were brouerht here for interment. Cox seemed deeply affected bv the tragedy Yesterday he went into a hardware store and asked to be shown some re volvers. The DroDrietor declined to exhibit the weapons. Mr, Coxentered another store. No undue mental dis turbance was'indieatedby his demean or, i He was shown several revolvers. He selected one and cartridges to fit. These he deliberately adjusted in the chamber. "Gentlemen," he said, turning to five or six men in th store, "I wish to say good-by," and the thoroughly frightened spectators ad vanced to prevent the suicide. "Stand back!" he exclaimed, brandishing the weapon, 4"I don't wint to die a mur derer, but you mustjnot attempt to in terfere." The men retreated. THE MEXICAN PENSION BILL. The House Committee on Pensions have added an amendment - to the Mexican Pension bill, introduced in the House by Mr. Woolford, and di rected the report of the bill tothe House. As agreed upon in commit tee, the bill authorizes the Secretary of the Interior to place on the pension rolls, at the rate or $b per month, the names of all surviving officers, soldiers and sailors who served in the Mexican war for any period during the years l4o, 74o, W and 74a, or their surviv ing widows. Secondary evidence of an honorable discharge may be receiv ed in case of the loss of the official document, or the proof of receipt of a land warrant, lawfully procured, shall be sufficient evidence of an honorable discharge. No soldier whose political disabilities have not been removed shall be entitled to the benefits of the act.
