I The steamer Beta, which'arrived at Halifax, brought from TurFs island the second engineer and several of the crew of the steamer Saxon, which was wrecked on the evening of February 4 in Caicos passage. ! The steamer was bound from New York to Haytmn with an assorted arga. On the fifth day out she struck on Birch's Lookout Reef, and on the following day broke in two. Two others of the crew by the aid of a plank swam to a schooner, leaving Captain Toyman and four others on the wreck. The high winds and rough water prevented any attempt at rescue of the remaining survivors until Monday, by which time, still another of the men had been washed away and the captain, becoming delirious, had died. The Lenoir Topic says the Granite Falls manufaetnring company has been running day and night for seve ral weeks. The Asheville Citizen says that the plant for incandescent lights for the Battery Porter hotel has been pur chased by Col.
