Mr. Cheek, a gentleman some 55 years of age, a native of Orange co.,has been for a uumber of years engaged in-iuerchan. dising and speculating in the town of Durham, aud being a man devoted to bis busines it is thought overtasked bis nerves, from which cause he has for some months been confined to his room, and ow ing to his nervous condi jLion lias recently been removed to the residence of bis brother-in-law, Mr- Fred. Gear, some mile from tbe town, f jn order to give him more quiet. Yes ierdaj morning while his wife was ab* sent from the room at breakfast Mr_ Cheek by some paeans fastened the pnosqoito netting of bis bed around his neck, and securing it to the bciL-post swung bimselt therefrom, and when his wife returned to the room he was life' less.
