Carr will bo here today to address the Confederate Veterans. lie is a lavome among tne veterans and they will hear hi in gladly. Several days were occupied be fore U. S. Judge Pritehard at Ashe- vuie last week, hearing the motion by the Southern and other railroads to restraiih tho Corporation Coin mission from putting into offect the rate bill passed by the last Legis lature. Judge Pritehard continued tho temporary restraining order thoretofore granted deciding against tho commission. The final hearing as to the Southern will take place the first Monday in October. There seems to be a strong sentiment against taking matters which affoct the citizens of State to Federal courts, and the doing so will not make friends for those who do it. The old Board examined the Treasurer's and Supt's books, then adjourned sine die, when the new Board were duly inducted into I office. The next business of the Board was the election of a Supt. of Schools. A number of the leading citizens and friends of education! Irom all parts of the county appear ed before the Board and spoke in favor of Dr. Long and commended him as the one of all who should bo retained in the office ho lias so ably filled so long. No other name was placed before the Board and ho was unanimously elected. After this 'the school committeemen for the va rious districts were elected, and tho Board adjourned to meet on Satur day,. He is doing well up to this time. 'Alfred Alexander has a very sick child. ' i Fred Soot, an aged gentleman of Kimesville, is not expected to live. i rail-. This purse will be one hundred dollars in gold. The purse will be divided into four moneys.' Fifty per cent first, twenty-five per cent sec ond, fifteen per cent third and ten per cent. lourtn. There must be five nominations and three to start. The entrance fee for this purse will be ten per cent. All applicants for fiveyear State certificates are required by law to file with their applications "a statement from the County Superin tendent of Public Instruction of the county in which the applicant last taught, that the applicant holds a first grade certificate and has taught successfully at least one year." 2. The examination for these certificates will cover all the subjects named in section 4087 of the Public School Law. 3. The examination will be held by the County Superintendent at the regular time and place fixed by section 4162 of th Public School Law for the examination of teachers for county certificates. HIGH SCHOOL TEACHERS CERTIFICATE 1. The law requires all applica tions for high school teacher's certi ficates to be filed with the State Superintendent of Public Instruction 2. The law forbids any person to teach any subject in a public high school established under the high school act of the General Assembly of 1907 who does not hold a high school teacher's certificate covering the subject. 3. The first examination of appli cants for high school teacher's certi- cates will be held by the County Superiniendent of Public Instruction of each county on July 25, 1907. All applications for this examina tion must be filed with the State Superintendent of Public Instruc tion on Or before July 11, 1907. Blanks for such applications will be Steel I furnished to any applicant by the County Superintendent or the State Superintendent. Every applicant is required to fill out one of these blank applications and furnish the information asked therein. The questions for the examination will be prepared by the State Board of Examiners, papers will be graded, and the certificates issued by said board. ; ' . jvery applicant wno is a college graduate must file with the State Board of Examiners a certifi cate from the president or the sec- rotary of the college attended as : to graduation and standing, and fur nish such other evidence of his pre paration and experience in the high school work as may be require d, before any application, for a high school teacher's certificate without 7. All applicants for a high school teacher's certificate holding a first grade teacher's certificate issu ed within two years preceding the examination or a 5-vear State cer tificate will be excused from exam ination in those subjects covered by those certificates, provided satisfac tory evidence of such certificate Is filed with the State Board of Exam iners. 8.
