They came in good time. —Corn planting time is here and the farmers are busy getting in the seed. —Hayes Drug Co, has put in a new.and very complete coda fountain outfit, —The County Commissioners meet in regular monthly session next Monday. —Miss M irtha Holt-will entertain the Young Ladies' Sewing Club on Friday afternoon at 4 o'clock. —On Tuesday next the election will be held for the election of a Mayor and Town Commissioners. —This is the last day for the pay ment of poll tax in to qualify to vote at the coming town election. —Town politics are warming up a little. The candidates for Mayor and their friends are busy looking after the voters. —The Virginia-Carolina baseball teams will meet in Greenboro Satur day to play the deciding game of the season. They stand tied now. —The Capt. Mike Moore farm of 800 acres will be sold in parcels Saturday. It lies south of Mebane. The big ad. in this issue tells about it. —Mr. and Mrs. Chas. C. Thomp son and family, who have lived out in Albright township for several years, moved back to Graham a few days ago. Their home is with Mr. J. N. 11. Clendenin. —On last Friday Col. Don E. Scqtt, Mr. J. L. Scott, Jr., Mr, H. W. Scott, Mr John Scott, Mrs. Mc- Bride Holt, Mrs. Birdie Thompson, Mrs. J. D. Kernodle and Messrs. Robert Harden and Armstrong Holt from here attended the big welcome given by Durham to the returned soldiers. —Mr. Joseph B. Rogers, one of the best eitizens of Long's Chapel community, died after a brief illness of a few hours on the 19th of April in the 61st year of his age. He was buried at Long's Chapel the follow day. He was one of the pillars of his church and a very estimable man. Two sons and two daugters survive him. —Our Burlington neighbora have a big contest on for mayor. .Last Thursday night a big convention was held by the Democrats and Earl B. Horner was nominated. He won over Mayor Moore by the narrow margin of 4 votes. Now the news comes to-day that the Republicans have nominated E. S. W. Dameron to oppose Horner. Ice and Frost. It had been getting cooler for a day or two and on last Saturday morning there was plenty of ice and frest. Irish potato tops, beans, to matoes and other early vegetables were badly bitten, doing consider able damage. On the morning fol lowing there was aiso a little frost. The subject at the Graham Bap tist church Sunday, 11:00 a. m., will be "Election"---2 Peter 1:10-11. At 8:00 p. m. Rev. J. C. Canipe of Mebane will speak on the Baptist Young People's Union. Following his address the B. Y. P. U. of Me bane will give a demonstration. The public is invited to all services. Former Alamance Man Dies at Wilson. Mr. Jule G. Roney, aged about 64 years, died last Friday at Wilson, N. C., and was buried there Saturday, Mr. Roney was a native of Alamance and was born and reared near Mc- Cray, Fa'ucette township. For several years he resided at Durham and from thare went to Wilson, where he had lived for twenty years or more. He was engaged in the tobacco busines and had prospered. Ho was well liked by all who knsw him and his old friends in Alamance . will regret to hear of his death. He ia survived by his* widow and two daughter. He waa a brother of Mrs. Sidney B. Holt of Graham and Mr. Cheeley H. Roney of Faucette town ship, both of whom attended the funeral. > His death came as the re- rait of a stroke of paralysis. Misses Annie lien Long and Annie Lanrie Farrell, from the North Caro- lina College for Women at Greens boro, having finished their business courses are at their ljomes here. Mrs. J. J. Jiarefo.it and Mrs. J. D. Kernodle of Graham Chapter U. D. C. left Tuesday as representatives of Graham Chapter to attend the State meeting of the U. D. C. at Wilscn. Mr. William Menefce, connected with the Aviation service" and for the past several months stationed at Rockaway Beach, N. Y., has received l>is discharge and reached home last Saturday. Special Service for Elderly People. Next Sabbath week, May 11th, at the morning eery ice at the Presby terian church, Graham, N. C., a union service will be held in behalf of the elderly people and shut-ins of the town and community. Dr. A. R. Shaw will preach on the text: "At evening time it shall be light." A committee of ten ladies has been appointed to make the necessary ar rangements for this service; The committee is as f Hows : Mrs. Jas. K. Miller. A sufficient number of automo biles will be secured to bring friends who have no conveyances. A special invitation is extended to the Confederate Veterans and to the elderly people in the County Home. The committee is earnestly seek ing to obtain a complete list of all the aged friends who might desire to attend this service and will com municate with them later. April 22, 1019. Automobile Stolen. Mr. Gene Hunter drug salesman, who does the principal part of his traveling "by automobile, had his car stolen Monday night. He was in Greensboro and left his car iu the shed at the fluffine Hotel. It was a Dort and a nice one. Tbo writer saw Mr. Hunter here today and he said he had not yet heard anything from his car.
