Ben B. Holt will sympathize with her in the death of ljer father, Mr. A. B. Clark, who died Sunday evening at his home in Pittabasp. He had been in ill health for many months and his death did not come as a surprise. —Rev. "J. G. Truitt, a brilliant young man snd former pastor of Graham Christian church, who went from here to News Feny, Va., has entered the Theological SemU nary at Princeton University, Prince ton, N. J, £ —Mr. Lonnle B. Kaell of Graham, who is a student at Elon College, ia - the editor of "Maroon and Gold," the student publication of the Col lege. He graduated from Graham High School over two years ago and in the latter part oftfhe war was with the U. S. Battleship Nevada. : —The second annual Community Fair at.WhHsett will be held on Oct. 7th. Almost all the departments of the big fairs will be represented. A good list of cash and special premiums will be given. Good speakers, good music, good exhibit! and enjoyable entertainment are promised. —On Wednesday morning about midway between Graham Haw Riv er Bdssie Freeland, colored, was shot by her step-son, Harvey Freeland, a boy about 17 years old. The woman was carried to Rainey Hospital for attention. One of her arms waa badly ahot up and several shot en tered her aide —Our townsman, M*. Sam T. Johnston, contracts* %bd builder, has taken the contract to build a large feed mill in Greensboro for Messrs J. G. and Charles Guthrie, the former of Graham snd the latter of Smithfield, both of whom have been in tbe milling business for several years. The building will be 30x86 feet and thtee stories. —Sunday before laat at the Haw River churth, when X*. P. H. Flem ing, the Pastor, had closed the service, a member of the congregation arose and aaked the privilege of saying a ' word. He said the church had re quested-him: to ask Dr. Fleming to okll at Mr. P. S. Dixon's tailor shop the next day and get a suit of clothes that he would find waiting for him. This was kind on th» part of the church and hi&hfy appreciated by Dr. Fleming. —The Christian Sun, the organ of the Southern Christian Convention, published at Burlington, has in creased its subscription price from $2.00 to $2.50 for the.year, efEectivo Oct. Ist It ia a IH-page paper, pages 9 by l£ inches. Even at that price the subscriptions will not pay the expense of producing the paper. As in the case of the Sun as to eort of producing, the same is true as to about every paper, religious or se cular, now published. Scott spent yester day in Greensbpro. - Mr. H. W. Scott spent yesterday afternoon in Greensboro. Maj. J. J. Henderson spent Tues day in Raleigh on business. Mr. Ralph Long of Greensboro was in Grainant this morning. Mr. E. 8. Parker, Jr., was in Greensboro yesterday on legal busi ness. Miss Mamie Turner of Raleigh is here visiting her sister, Mrs. H. W. Scott. Mrs. J. L. Scott, Jr.|ia visiting her daughter, Mrs. C. W. Causey, in Greensboro. Midshipman Ml H. Kernodle, who has been off on leave for the paat four weeks, left last night for the U. 8. Naval Academy at Annapolis, Md. Rev. Joseph G. Walker of Green ville, S. C., where he has been liv ing about a year, spent Tuesday hero at the home of his mother, Mrs. Ida Walker. Evangelistic Services. Last Wednesday night the evan gelistic services conducted by Rev. A Victor Lightbourne commenced at Graham Christian church. The church was found insufficient to ac commodate the congregations and after the third night the place of meeting was moved to the Opera House. Mr. Lightbourne ia a very forceful, interesting and magnetic speaker. The music, too, hae been wonderful. Mr. Sam Davis, the blind pianist of national reputation, thrills his hearers by his fine playing. Th% meeting will close Sunday night, and those who have failed to hear the preaching and themuaic have lost a great opportunity. —■ Dies Suddenly. Mr. nenry T. Evans died sudden ly at his home here about 9:30 o'olock last night. He was on the streets less than two hours before bis death. He was stricken with apo plexy soon after reaching home and expired in about half an hour. He was 37 years old and is survived by his widow and six children. N. Williamson, one of the county's best known and mut esteemed oitistens, suffered a slight stroke of paralysis a few days ago. He baa not been very well and atrong for several months. He is now Gen fined to bis home, but able to sit up. DEATHS. Mr. W. E. Wooeley died in At lanta* Ga., Tuesday from operation for cancer of tbe stomach. The burial waa at Cross Roads He was 45 years old and leaves a widow and several children. He had lately built a new borne jon part of tbe Griffia place, eaat of Haw River. He was a good citizen. Mrs. Sarah J. Cates, widow of J. M. Cates, died at Haw River laat Saturday in her 60th year.
