C., JULY 14, 1927. COUNTY BUDGET. A tentative budget of the amount necessary to operate the county's affairs and pay interest charges lias been prepared by the County Ac countant. The budget is given under four heads, the net totals of each as fol lows: General county expense $ 62,152.02 Roads > 115,732.00 Debt .'. 130,647.50 Schools ; 223,693,00 Total $538,225.12 This is a big sum of money and it will have to be raised by direct property and privilege taxes. With this amount of money to raise there seems to be little hope of %nv re duction in sight. ? ? ? Convention to Feature Farm Organizations Farmers clubs; local marketing associations, national organiza tions of farmers and just plain community clubs will headline the program at the State Farm ers' Convention to be held at State College, July 2G, 27 and 28. "We want to have an experi ence meeting in farm organiza tions," says J. M. Gray, assistant director of extension at State College and secretary of the con vention. "We shall have rep resentative ofour most successful farmers'clubs on our program; we will hear from the small local selling organizations and we have invited an official from one of the 'leading national organizations of farmers to address us during the convention. We want to know about farm organizations, how they have succeeeded, why they have failed And we want the farmers to come prepared to shoot questions at these speakers so that all of us may benefit." Mr. Gray states that the con vention will get under way early Tuesday morning, July 26, with registration of guests and assign ment of rooms. As in the past, the college will furnish rooms free of charge. The meals will be served for the uomiual charge of 25 centp each iu the college dining hall. Farmers and their wives should bring the necessary toilet articles, a towel or two, some bed linen and a determina tion to have a good time. One of the best things at the convention will be the hog calling contest for which prizes amount ing to 150 are offered. This will be held Jnly 27. Another inter esting feature open to both men and women is the crop identifica tion contest for which a handsome silver trophy cup is offered. In this contest, the visitors will be asked to name a number of cropt and their varieties. The man or woman most successful will be awarded the cup. Halifax farmers sold 800 poundt of wool last week for 32c a pound Freeh land used for poultry runs will reduce losses from inter nal parasites of the chicks. Over 500 club boys and j^rh are expected to attend the anuua club short course at State Collect July 11 to 10. 4 Pigs do not thrive well on a ra tion made 1 up entirely of corn found one farmer whose pigs wert very unthrifty.
