Will Repeat Success ot Plow-Up Campaign Controlling the production of cotton bv cooperative sc.ion is no new thing to Southern grow ers. In the adjustment campaign during the summer of 1932, they removed 10,400,000 acres from pro duction and decreased the proba - bje supply of cotton by 4,100,090 bales. The reward for this was a price last fall fully doube what it would have been, and the ad ditional re ward of liberal rental and option payments. "With this background of achieve ment and this knowledge of th i own ability to improve their eco nomic conditions, it is believed that the progressive growers of the South will welcome the n e w op opportunity further to stabilize the cotton situation," says Chas. A. Sheffield, assistant director o f ex tension at State College. " Many growers who secured the loan of ten cents a pound on their 193.! cotton and will get a fur her loan of four cents a pound on their option cot'on, will of course iljii the reduction contract. This ii a large ilueleus around which othei progressive producers may gather." Reinforced by the knowledge ol what happened last year as a re sult of the cotton adjustment ram paign, Mr. Sheffield believes thai alert growers stand ready to re peajt this year. The new con - tract being offered the growers during the present month is dim ply another effort by the ad jus. ment administration to allow cot PERSONAL J. S. Timely Farm Questions Answered At State College Question? What variety of lespe deza is best for hay production in North Carolina? Answer? The Tennessee (No. 76 variety 13 especially good for hay as the growth is from 8 to 2 t inches in heighth. The kob? isa rother variety with a'(growth equal to the Tennessee but the stems and leaves are larger and coarser. For the best all-round .variety the Common gives excellent re sults. This variety makes good yields of hay and seed and re seelka itself in pastures much better than othe- varieties. The average hay production ofthe Com mon is 2,300 pounds an acre as compared with 2.S00 pounds ot the Tennessee and Kobe varieties. Question? Can healthy. 'vigorous chicks be secured from late hatch ed pullets? Answer? If the pullets have been in production from 60 to 90 days before the eggs are selected for hatching and have been mated with vigorous cocks the chicks sho ild be satisfactory. The fac - tors of good management for the pullets, ho wever, will have con siderable bearing on the question. A balanced ration should be fed, reinforced with a biologically test ed cod liver oil where green feed is not available. The houses should be well ventilated with plenty of room allowed for the laying pullet, Question? How much land should be prepared for planting a home garden? Arswer? The size of the family should govern the size of the garden. A tenth of an acre will produce an abundance of \ egetabl es for one person and this amount should be allowed for each mem ber of the family except for chil dren under five years of age. If such crops as wa'ermelons, canta loupes, Irish and sweet potatoes are to be grown, a larger acre age is needed. If these are grown outside the garden, half an acre will be sufficient to furnish s | family of five. Practically every tobacco grower in Martin County signed .he ad justment contract, said the farm agent. 666 Liquid, Tablets, >?alve. Nose Drops Checks Malaria in .1 days. Colds first day.
